Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones recently drew parallels between San Francisco 49ers Brock Purdy and three-time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes. The 82-year-old feels that Purdy looks Mahomes-ish comparing their collegiate and professional careers.

Ahead of the Cowboys’ matchup against the 49ers, the team’s owner praised Purdy, despite both teams falling short of preseason expectations. The 49ers sit last in the NFC West, while the Cowboys are only just above the Giants in the NFC East.

Jerry Jones, on his part, has been embroiled in controversies in the last few weeks. Jones had blown up against a reporter to the point of threatening the person’s job. He also came into fresh controversy blaming his team, echoing former quarterback Troy Aikman‘s words, calling the Cowboys soft.

In a Friday interview on 105.3 The Fan’s K&C Masterpiece, Jones noted that Purdy and Mahomes played similarly in college. He also admitted to being informed about Purdy’s talent by Barry Switzer, who coached the Oklahoma side when the now 49ers starter played the Iowa State.

Well you know, Brock Purdy … he looked Mahomes-ish. If you looked at him in college, he did things like Mahomes… I know Barry Switzer called me and told me, he said that there’s a kid up there at Iowa State that has something different. And so, the bottom line is that he does have the ability to make things happen creatively, a unique ability.

Jerry Jones said

Brock Purdy has led the San Francisco 49ers to two straight postseasons, including a Super Bowl game in 2023. He has racked up several records and statistics in the short term, changing the whole identity of being the last pick.

Jerry Jones believes that the Dallas Cowboys will shut up Brock Purdy

The Dallas Cowboys are 3-3 after seven games in this season. The Cowboys are still reeling from a blowout 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions in week 7, with quarterback Dak Prescott throwing two interceptions with barely passable quarterback stats.

The Cowboys need a win against the 49ers to revive their record and charge the same to a winning record. The Niners, with a losing record of 3-4, are also on a similar page as the Cowboys.

Purdy had a forgettable night against the Chiefs last week. They would look hard to bounce back from the defeat. Jones believes that there’s a way to shut Purdy on Sunday night, referencing the quarterback’s recent struggles despite the praise.

Is there a way to shut him down? I guess so. There have been several teams that have been successful against him.

Jerry Jones claimed

Brock Purdy has faced the Cowboys twice in his career, defeating them in both instances. In his two previous matchups with the Dallas-based team, Purdy has thrown for 466 yards, completing 68 percent of his passes with four touchdowns, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 120.5.

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback would look to take control of the Cowboys’ grappling offense to show that he’s still got it amid trade rumors.
