Amari Cooper has been quite in the news lately for the powerful move by the Buffalo Bills to acquire him from the Cleveland Browns ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Seeing the former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver trending on the news, Jerry Jones finally revealed the real reason for letting him go in 2022.

Cooper’s run with the Cowboys didn’t go quite well, leading the team to cite his lack of effort as a reason for trading him to the Browns. However, that wasn’t the real story. During the Cowboys owner’s recent appearance on 105.3 The Fan, he addressed the exit of the five-time Pro Bowler from America’s team in 2022.

Despite the ongoing criticism of Jones’ management of the Cowboys, the 82-year-old didn’t hesitate before revealing that he traded one of the star players merely just two years into his five-year contract worth $100 million.

We went for the dollars. When we traded Amari Cooper, we saved almost $20 million for our cap and in the future. We took a lesser draft pick to get that savings.

Jerry Jones said

Dallas received a fifth-round pick and a swap of sixth-round selections in exchange for Cooper and if that hasn’t worked out, they were anyway planning to cut him. Two years later, the Browns traded the star wideout in exchange for two picks and a third-round pick.

Dez Bryant’s wish as Amari Cooper shines in Buffalo

Since Cooper became available for a trade, former Cowboys star Dez Bryant had expressed his wish for the wide receiver to reunite with the struggling Cowboys, which would have provided quarterback Dak Prescott another reliable target on the field, while his passing game with CeeDee Lamb had been off.

I pray Dallas Cowboys get Amari Cooper back.

Dez Bryant tweeted on X, earlier this month

Bryant addressed the subject following the Cowboys’ humiliating defeat against the Detroit Lions at 47-9, which was also their fourth consecutive home defeat. Bringing back the five-time Pro Bowler would have increased some chances of improving Dallas’s passing game.

However, like the offseason the Cowboys didn’t make any move, and Cooper landed in Buffalo, where he quickly contributed to their victory against the Tennessee Titans. He posted an impressive outing of four receptions for 66 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
