Jerry Jones might be 81 years old, but that does not mean he is having one of the most trying seasons as the owner of the Dallas Cowboys. A bland offseason and the fact that he has to negotiate and find a way to ensure three of his most important players stay with the franchise is a lot of pressure. Prime among them, is the contract extension of quarterback Dak Prescott.
Jones was speaking with reporters at the Dallas Cowboys training facilities. Naturally, the question about Prescott’s future came up.
Just to be very specific, I do not think this will be his last year with the Cowboys, at all. It's pretty clear...of how much we appreciate what Dak Prescott has meant to this team, in a positive way. The players do play better when he's out there. He does make his teammates play at a higher level. There is no question about it. I'm right there in line with his best fan.Jerry Jones replied
This was another one of his declarations that his quarterback would remain with the team going forward, as he feels his play elevates the rest of the players on the squad. Time is running out for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys with regards to their quarterback’s contract. The final season of his current contract is about to start in a couple of months. If he does play at an elite level and surpass his career highs, the contract will be pricier.
But that still does not mean that Jones will balk and take whatever is in front of him. As he said clearly before, he wants to see how it all runs out before making a decision on the figure. Jones is in no rush as of now.
Dak Prescott has a make-or-break season in front of him
If these words are to be taken seriously, it means Dak Prescott has to prove he is worth a massive contract. In other words, this season, he will be gauged on his prowess on the field. Career highs are fine. But what the Dallas Cowboys, owner Jerry Jones and their fans want most, is to win a Super Bowl.

Admittedly, this roster is a slight downgrade compared to last season. That said, it should not be an excuse as Dak Prescott essentially has to lead them to a better record than last time. Most importantly, a playoff win or two. That will show Jerry Jones and the fans that he is worthy of a massive contract. Otherwise, there is a chance he will walk away with no contract in hand looking for another job.
The 30-year-old All-Pro might want his fellow contract dispute teammate CeeDee Lamb to get his deal done soon. Without the All-Pro wide receiver on the field in all the games, there is no chance Prescott can hope to better his numbers and that of the team.
