The Dallas Cowboys made a statement win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night in the Thanksgiving Classic. The Cowboys overcame the Chiefs’ challenge in the fourth quarter and managed to stay on top with a 31-28 win at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The team’s owner and controversial business personality, Jerry Jones, praised the Dallas Cowboys’ coach Brian Schottenheimer in the franchise’s recent run and turnaround. He compared Schottenheimer to the team’s offseason addition in the receiving room, George Pickens.
Pickens has been in his zenith form in the past twelve games, putting up more yards than the rest of his former team’s wideouts combined. He has also been instrumental in changing the narrative in favor of the Cowboys in several games.
Ahead of the season, despite Pickens’ previous good performances, he wasn’t expected to blow up like he did. It was quite unexpected and that’s what Jones took of Schottenheimer as well. Jones told the media:
I’m gonna say the same thing about him as I can say about (George) Pickens, better than I could’ve hoped for. This team is seeing [Schottenheimer] really as a head coach evolve, as a part of their play. And boy, that’s really good stuff to build on. And so I emphasize that I’m seeing great, great tangible things that this team can use next week and in the future.
The Cowboys are 6-5-1 under Schottenheimer, and the victory has edged them further toward being a playoff contender. Under Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys had missed the playoffs last season. The win against the Chiefs and the Detroit Lions’ loss to the Green Bay Packers have increased the Cowboys’ probabilities of making the playoffs. Although the Cowboys will need more than a couple of wins and a few favorable results to enter the final seven from the NFC, their hopes are at an all-time high.
Brian Schottenheimer: Frontrunner for the Coach of the Year
Brian Schottenheimer has made his case for Coach of the Year honors with his team’s recent win over the Kansas City Chiefs. In fact, in the past two weeks, the Cowboys have defeated both teams that appeared in Super Bowl LIX. They scored 24 unanswered points on the Philadelphia Eagles last week to win 24-21.

The late-playoff stretch from the Dallas Cowboys with the three-game winning streak has put Brian Schottenheimer in the running for the position, according to Mike Florio. The PFT analyst claimed that Schottenheimer has pushed the Cowboys to exceed the preseason expectations.
Florio also noted that the coach has been able to keep the locker room focused amid a trying time. They recently lost their second-year DL Marshawn Kneeland, and since his passing, the Cowboys have won three games. Florio wrote:
Schottenheimer’s ability to keep the team together and focused should not be underestimated. Most importantly, they’ve put themselves in position for a postseason run despite the ill-advised decision to trade linebacker Micah Parsons to the Packers less than two weeks before Week 1.
The Dallas Cowboys have also shaped up to be true threats in the NFC. ESPN Analyst Ryan Clark pointed out that the surge in performances from Dak Prescott, George Pickens, and CeeDee Lamb has made the team a legitimate threat for the title of NFC championship. Clark also highlighted the play-calling by Schottenheimer.

If it happens, Brian Schottenheimer will be the first Cowboys coach to win a conference title since 1995-96. He could do something that Bill Parcells, Wade Phillips, and Jason Garrett couldn’t do.
The Dallas Cowboys return to action against the Detroit Lions next week, followed by Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Chargers. The Cowboys have an easy stretch to finish the season with a Christmas game against the Washington Commanders and a final showdown against the New York Giants.
