The Dallas Cowboys ended their 2024 season after in a miserable fashion, but the miseries did not stop there. Now Jerry Jones is about to go on a search for a new head coach after failing to get Mike McCarthy to sign on a new deal.
All season long, the talk of the football world was as if Mike McCarthy was worth a new contract. But their play towards the end of the season without star players saw Jerry Jones hype up his head coach. It seemed as if Jones was ready to extend McCarthy.
However, the talk has changed overnight as both sides could not agree on the length of the new deal. That opens the doors for McCarthy to seek opportunities elsewhere, and at the same time, Jones has to field interviews with prospective candidates.
When prospective candidates look at opportunities, they look for factors that would interest them in the job. With that notion, Scott Van Pelt, via ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown, asked Cowboys legend Troy Aikman about the outlook of his former team as a coveted job.
"I love the Dallas Cowboys. I played there for 12 years. I wish them well but to say that it's a coveted job I'm not sure I would necessarily agree with that."

The three-time Super Bowl champion added that anyone taking the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job will be at the center of media attention. He also felt that any prospective head coach would want to do things their way. With Jerry Jones on the top of everything, there are only a handful of people who would want that.
Troy Aikman feels Kellen Moore would suit Jerry Jones
With Mike McCarthy out of the job, Troy Aikman does not believe many prospective candidates want the role. However, when speaking with his ESPN colleagues on Monday Night Countdown, he mentioned one name that has worked with the Dallas Cowboys in the past.
Aikman believes Kellen Moore is revered by Jerry Jones. That was evident when the Cowboys owner told McCarthy when taking the job that Moore would stay on as OC. But he was let go, as their now former HC wanted full control over the offense.
But the former Cowboys backup QB has fixed his reputation as an offensive wizard during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles. With Aikman believing there may not be many candidates willing to take the job, he believes Kellen Moore has every possibility of being their next head coach.
