The Dallas Cowboys might not have won a single championship in 30 years but an undeniable fact is the team continues to thrive from a financial perspective. The team recently hit a whopping valuation of $10.32 billion making it the most valuable NFL and sports franchise in the world.
There’s a reason the Dallas Cowboys earned the moniker ‘America’s Team’, they represent opulence and have a loyal fan following that continues to increase and ride by their side irrespective of the disappointing outcome over the last three decades. As per Sportico, America’s team is unstoppable in terms of valuation growth.
Jerry Jones has been a pivotal reason for the continued growth of the Cowboys. He made the team more marketable than its competitors and as much as he is criticized for setting his team up to fail with his comments on certain occasions, he has fought tooth and nail to ensure the Cowboys’ popularity does not wane.
The Dallas Cowboys’ popularity is not correlated to their performance on the field
The team valuations are surprising to an extent. After all, the natural assumption would be, that the more successful a team, the more its popularity would be. But this is where Jerry Jones seems to have cracked the code. Despite having just 4 playoff wins and their last Super Bowl appearance in 1996, their popularity has continued to rise.
This value comes in light of the ongoing struggles between the Dallas Cowboys and their attempt to keep their stars with the team. As the tensions rise between the organization and wideout CeeDee Lamb, Jones & Co. would attempt to convince fans that just because the team is valued so high, it does not mean they have that amount of cash lying around. Which is fair to an extent.
Jerry Jones purchased the Dallas Cowboys in 1989 for $140 million, the team has emerged as his best investment to date. Apart from the Cowboys, the other most valuable sports teams in the world are the New York Yankees, the Golden State Warriors, and the New England Patriots, all valued a little over $7 billion. As Dallas heads into a critical year where anything less than making it to the NFC Championship round would be deemed as a failure, the valuation list is a breather for Jerry Jones who can stay rest assured that his team’s popularity has continued to grow.
