Considering how Jerry Jones loves to create drama around his Dallas Cowboys, he postponed his team’s season exit interviews after almost every other team not playing in the postseason had completed theirs.

The billionaire loves to feel exclusive when it comes to talking to reporters and making his franchise the center of attention. Moreover, he knew that questions about the way his Cowboys ended the season would hit a nerve or two.

After all, he agreed that his team underachieved. To ensure he did not enter this media session with a target on his back, Jones fired Matt Eberflus earlier, which meant questions about his defense would not be the most pressing issue.

Even then, there was no ignoring the fact that the most important question surrounding the Cowboys was who would be the next defensive coordinator. When DLLS’ Clarence Hill Jr. asked if head coach Brian Schottenheimer was going to hire his next coordinator, Jerry Jones replied:

Trump just said it. I’m running Venezuela.

After this answer brought out a bout of laughter, the 83-year-old went on to reveal that Schottenheimer had his say when Eberflus was being hired.

In the same way, he, along with Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones, will also have a say on the next candidate Jerry Jones believes is apt to lead their defense.

Fans lose it as Jerry Jones uses politics to deflect a question

Football fans listening to Jerry Jones referencing President Donald Trump and the Venezuela situation to answer a question related to the Cowboys hiring their next defensive coordinator were appalled.

They believe this was classic Jones, resorting to his unapologetic ways that would bring in more drama instead of answering the question, keeping in mind the context.

Fans felt this was the owner-cum-GM’s way of reminding everyone that he was in charge. Check out examples of those reactions below.

There is no doubt that Jerry Jones is the be-all and end-all of the Dallas Cowboys. Everything revolves around how he feels his team should be.

Even though it has resulted in a three-decade-plus Super Bowl drought, the narratives do not bother the man. Instead, he prefers to create his own.

Jerry Jones reiterates his desire to win

During this press conference, Jerry Jones fielded several questions that he has heard over the years, just probably worded differently. When one question focused on the possibility of him getting more awards for his work in football, the Cowboys owner replied:

I’m beyond ego. I don’t need another award. I want to win.

Jerry Jones said as quoted by Joseph Hoyt

It seems he would like to win football games and possibly at least one Super Bowl before his time on this earth comes to an end. Knowing how his Cowboys have been unsuccessful in the pursuit of the latter, Jones is trying hard to do everything possible to help them win.

A good defensive coordinator will help turn the tide of this team. They have an explosive offense, but require a defense that can stop their opponents if they are to win games. Jones’ priority in this offseason is to find someone who can get them back onto the winning path.
