Jerry Jones often receives ample criticism for not making exciting additions to the Dallas Cowboys team. That might change soon as the veteran owner wants to bring back fan favorite Deion Sanders as the Cowboys’ new head coach.

When Jones blocked the Chicago Bears from interviewing Mike McCarthy for the head coaching job, it was widely believed that he would return as the Cowboys head coach in 2025. However, just one day before he hit free agency on January 14th, the Cowboys announced that McCarthy left his position.

Over the past week, Mike and I had the opportunity to conduct a joint review of all aspects of the past season… These discussions were thorough and received an appropriate amount of time and depth to cover. Prior to reaching the point of contract negotiations, though, it became mutually clear that it would be better for each of us to head in a different direction.

Only a few hours after the announcement, NFL insider Jordan Schultz revealed that Jones has been in contact with former player and HOF Deion Sanders.

Sanders ended his second year at Colorado with a 9-3 record—the program’s first winning season since 2016. He spent five years with the Cowboys (1994-99), winning one Super Bowl title (the Cowboys last Lombardi Trophy). Jones hopes he can have a similar impact in Dallas as he had in Colorado.

Former Cowboys wide receiver lobbies Jerry Jones to hire Deion Sanders

After a long and forgetful season, Cowboys fans wanted a big change to occur, and McCarthy’s exit definitely put a smile on a lot of faces. Especially on former wide receiver Dez Bryant, who tweeted that McCarthy no longer being in Dallas was the correct move from Jones.

Bryant posted a different tweet a couple of hours later asking Jones to hire Deion Sanders as the Cowboys’ head coach.

I hope Deion Sanders gets the Cowboys coaching job.

It’s unclear what sort of a conversation Jones and Sanders had, but Prime Time/Coach Prime made it very clear that he would only move to the NFL on one condition. He will only coach the NFL team that drafts both his sons, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders and cornerback Shilo Sanders.

Draft experts projected Shedeur to be a top-10 pick while Shilo as a late third or early fourth-round prospect.

The Cowboys hold the 12th overall pick after finishing the season with a 7-10 record. So drafting Sanders would be a challenge. If Jones is serious about appointing Deion Sanders as the head coach, then perhaps there’s a plan in place.
