When Jerry Jones envisioned a stellar Dallas Cowboys defense, he did not, at least, envision Micah Parsons as a member of it. But he did think of star cornerback Trevon Diggs as one of the most important pieces of that core.
The defensive back had earned his reputation after establishing himself as one of the better players on a unit that thrived on takeaways. That changed this season after Parsons’ blockbuster trade to the Green Bay Packers.
The scheme changed to one that focused more on the front seven than leaning on the back four or five. This led a frustrated Trevon Diggs to have feuds with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, which eventually led to him not playing much.
Then he was famously placed on injured reserve after he allegedly suffered a concussion while working on a TV at home. The Maryland native did return to the fold, but had some questionable games as a starter.
The Cowboys have released cornerback Trevon Diggs. He goes through the waiver process and if unclaimed, he will be a free agent.

This news from the ESPN journalist came as a bolt out of nowhere, as it seems Jerry Jones’ patience with his two-time Pro Bowler ran thin. Now, Trevon Diggs has to go through the waiver wire.

If he is unclaimed, he will become a free agent, leaving him to join any team that goes after him. Considering what he brings to the table, there could be some suitors willing to take the plunge on him.
Fans lose it after Trevon Diggs’ release
Trevon Diggs still had three years left on the $97 million deal he signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a reward for all the good work he did in the first few years of his time with the franchise.
Now, for them to cut him with a game to go has left fans in stitches. They believe Jerry Jones and his staff finally came to understand that the Alabama star was overrated at his position, and they cut bait to save money.
Next year, the Cowboys will have an additional $12.5 million in cap space, which led fans to claim this was the best move to let go of a player who was becoming a locker room problem. Check out examples of those reactions below:

I knew he wasn’t injured. He was just benched because he was a huge liability getting burnt toast on every play.

Horrible day for both the Diggs brothers

Why would any team even pick him up if he were free? Just to give up 250 and a TD? Dude is BBQ chicken back there every play.

Buyer beware—the guy doesn't seem to have a strong head on his shoulders.

Dude had a $90M contract and was unwilling to fly back with the team? Be the leader your pay demands. I'm tired of hearing players complain about what this guy or that guy gets. No one cares.
He’ll be on the Eagles by sundown.

Letting Trevon Diggs hit waivers this late in the year feels like the Cowboys saying more about their locker room than his talent.

Thank God Jerry does something that actually makes sense. It was time to move on

Some fans speculate the 27-year-old will likely end up with the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles, or he could join his brother, Stefon Diggs, at the New England Patriots. However, franchises will be wary of the baggage that comes with both the Diggs brothers, following the latter’s involvement in another controversy.
Trevon Diggs’ family time request led to release
It has become evident that Trevon Diggs’ attitude played a major part in his release. Now, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz has come out with details of what allegedly went down before he had to exit the team facilities.

Schotty denied the request. Diggs again said he wanted to be with his family and that if he went back to Dallas, he’d just be flying right back on the first flight out, especially with players having several days off. The team vehemently denied his request again.

My understanding of the Trevon Diggs situation is this: after the #Cowboys finished their Christmas game vs. the Commanders, Diggs requested with HC Brian Schottenheimer to stay in Washington for the holiday since he’s from the area and his family stays there. As per the Insider, the cornerback wanted to make the most of the long week before their regular-season finale against the New York Giants. It is possible that the organization preferred he stays and work on his game. Now, he has all the time in the world to be with his family.
