DeMarcus Lawrence did not pass up on the opportunity to take a dig at Jerry Jones for not investing enough to win a Super Bowl.

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys haven’t won or played in a Super Bowl since their triumph in 1995. According to departed linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence, the drought is set to continue for his former team for the foreseeable future.

After entering free agency in 2025, Lawrence signed a $42 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks to move to the Northeast. It didn’t take long for the 32-year-old to take potshots against his former employers, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.

Change of scenery is always good. Dallas is my home; it’s my family’s home, but I know for sure I wasn’t going to win a Super Bowl there.

DeMarcus Lawrence said

Jones signed Lawrence in the second round of the 2014 draft. He became a mainstay at the heart of the Cowboys defense for 11 straight years, winning All-Pro and 4 Pro Bowl honors.

Lawrence racked up a total of 61.5 sacks during his time in Dallas. His family is from Dallas, and he loves the area, but a move away from Texas was a welcome change, considering the new faces in the front office as Jones ushers in a new age.

Linebackers tend to lose their prime by 35, and Lawrence still has three years in hand at the top level. However, he began to show signs of aging last year after missing the rest of the season following a foot injury in Week 4 against the rival New York Giants.

The Cowboys ended the year with a 7-10 record. Lawrence’s 3-year, $40 million contract with $30 million guaranteed, signed in 2022 (after being tagged twice in 2018 and 2019), ran out after the 2024 season ended. He informed Jones and the Cowboys to move quickly, or other teams may swoop in, and the Seahawks did exactly that.

Lawrence was among the senior and respected members in the Cowboys locker room alongside Zack Martin (retired this year) and Tyron Smith (joined Jets in 2024). Neither said anything bad about their time in Dallas, but it’s a fact that a team consisting of two players that shared 16 Pro Bowls and 12 All-Pro honors failed to go on a deep playoff run during their tenure.

However, Cowboys former tight end Dalton Schultz (2018-22) painted a very grim picture of Jerry Land after he left the team.

They’ve got a one-way mirror for people to look in. It’s literally a zoo. There’s people tapping on the glass, trying to get people’s attention while they’re doing power cleans or whatever…that’s what Jerry Jones likes, that’s the way they run things.

Dalton Schultz said on the Pat McAfee Show in 2024

Lawrence experienced it firsthand, and he decided to jump ship when he still had time to win a ring. The Boise State graduate shared his honest opinion, but a current player wasn’t too pleased with the assessment.

Star pass rusher Micah Parsons made a snarky comment on Lawrence’s views on X.

This what rejection and envy look like! This some clown sh**!.

Micah Parsons wrote

Parsons has come to Jones’ defense frequently. Recently, he backed the 82-year-old’s legacy as the general manager of the ‘Americas Team.’

Me and Jerry Jones… That’s my dog. We gotta stop that Jerry Jones hate… Listen, I’m telling y’all right now Cowboys Nation, Jerry Jones is much better as a GM than you guys think… I never met a man that takes better care of his players.

Micah Parsons said

Cowboys beef continued

Lawrence has no obligation to just sit tight and accept backhanded comments from Cowboys players, as he is a Seahawk. After Parsons’ dig, Lawrence fired back by asking him to focus on his game instead of doing podcasts.

Calling me a clown won’t change the fact that I told the truth. Maybe if you spent less time tweeting and more time winning, I wouldn’t have left.

Even though Parsons has been to the Pro Bowl every year since entering the NFL and finished in the top 5 a couple of times for the defensive player of the year honor, he has been called out for focusing more on business outside of football.
