Dak Prescott and his family can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Becoming the highest-paid NFL player in history is enough to certify his worth to not only the Dallas Cowboys but also the league. He becomes the new standard, despite not winning a Super Bowl. But that is where owner Jerry Jones wants his QB to take them in the next few years.
Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports caught up with the soon-to-be 82-year-old to ask about the new contract he handed to his QB.
What the guaranteed money means is a big commitment for the next five years to our future, if you will. There’s a lot of me that thinks that Dak is our quarterback for the rest of my time. That’s not just limited to the terms of this contract, either. I have a lot of confidence in him. He brings so much to the table. He's a player that the team follows.Jerry Jones said
These words suggest Jerry Jones wants Prescott to be the quarterback of his team in the next four years and beyond. That is with the hope that he too continues to live on during that time.
In that time, he hopes his superstar quarterback can bring him another Super Bowl. He would like to win one as it has been more than three decades since he has tasted the victory champagne. Jones knows his QB is a leader who can motivate his team to win.
Jerry Jones referenced legendary quarterback Roger Staubach, who advised him that he should pay the leader of the team. That explains why he did not hesitate to part with the $231 million in the guaranteed money he now owes to Prescott.
Dak Prescott and Cowboys win after signing mega contract
The contract was getting closer to becoming a reality when Jones previously revealed that they only had to finalize the duration of the contract. Once that was cleared, Dak Prescott and his representatives, along with Jones, signed on the dotted line a few hours before they kicked off their 2024 season.

Prescott threw for 179 yards and one touchdown. Not awe-inspiring numbers, but they kept the team churning the points table. It was the defense and special teams that won the day and kept the Cleveland Browns at bay. The double-digit win might not have had an explosive offense, but a win is a win.
This win will help them carry the momentum into next week, as they will take on the New Orleans Saints. Every win will be crucial as they are fighting against other teams who have improved their rosters. The Dallas Cowboys have not and will have to do with what they have.
