The Dallas Cowboys are the world’s highest valued sports franchise in the world, with Forbes putting them at $10.1 billion valuation as of last August. The Cowboys, who feature in every other marketing and business textbook, rose to billions when Jerry Jones took over the club.
As an owner and general manager, Jones has been forefront in making Benjamins, but the actual silverware has evaded the Cowboys for three decades now. In the past thirty years, the Cowboys have made the playoffs multiple times, but they haven’t made the Super Bowl game or the NFC Conference game. The lack of interest in actually playing football and winning has made fans frustrated, and in addition, his brazen behavior in extending Micah Parsons’ contract has left them even more furious.
Parsons, who played an important role in the Cowboys’ disappointing last season, is in his fifth year. In four seasons, Parsons has started and played 63 games, missing only six, and recorded 256 combined tackles and 52.5 sacks.
The four-time Pro Bowler has proven he’s a force to reckon with on multiple counts. However, the management has been very hesitant and lazy in extending his contract. Jerry Jones recently commented on the same at an overcast Monday press conference.
He stated that Parsons is as savvy about his contract as any other footballer. The Cowboys owner admitted that he made some bad decisions and signed a few players early, referencing Stefon Diggs and Terrence Steele.
However, he acknowledged that Parsons’ contract status has gone up from what it was a year back. The new contracts of TJ Watt, Myles Garrett, and the others have raised the average value of defensive players. Jones, however, noted that the delay doesn’t translate to the Cowboys not signing him.
There’s nothing new about what we’re talking about here today relative to contracts. It’s been going on a long time. I am not the least concerned about having any dangling participles out here on a contract, anywhere.
The Cowboys had contract drama affecting their practices last year as well, and a repeat is not the ideal situation. Although Parsons reported to the training camp, head coach Brian Schottenheimer admitted being unsure about his participation in practice at a Monday press conference.
Brian Schottenheimer hopes that Micah Parsons might not hold-in
The Cowboys’ head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, also spoke about a scenario where Micah Parsons might decide to hold in. In case Parsons decides to hold out, he might end up losing a good quantity of his bonus. Nevertheless, it might not be reason enough for him.

The head coach admitted that he thinks Micah Parsons might not hold in, albeit having the reasons to do so. Schottenheimer acknowledged that the player has recently stepped into a leadership role in the locker room. Furthermore, Schottenheimer added that Parsons had said that he wanted to evolve and be great in the Dallas outfit.
Just work everyday. How this thing is gonna play out is how it plays out. He’s talked all offseason about taking on more of a leadership role and he’s talked about wanting to be great. We know he’s a great player. We’re excited he’s here. There’s a lot of ways to get this thing done. Like we’ve said, we’re committed to having him take that next step and not only as a player, but as a leader.
The Dallas Cowboys training camp starts on July 22 and runs until August 13. They even play one preseason game in the middle of the training camp on August 9 against the Los Angeles Rams. Nevertheless, the talks between Parsons and the management are scheduled to continue during the camp as well.
Executive Vice President Stephen Jones noted that training camp provides a “good environment” for finalizing deals, so this could be the time when things finally come together for Parsons and the Cowboys.
