Jerry Jones did not let his complicated relationship with Micah Parsons get in the way of greeting his mother, Sherese Parsons, on Friday. There was no awkwardness during the exchange until the Dallas Cowboys owner took a veiled dig at Parsons.
The Cowboys played the Atlanta Falcons on the final day of preseason football. Before the kick-off, Jones was busy with his customary chat with the press, near the entrance to the tunnel. Jones spotted Parsons’s mother in the viewing area and quickly embraced her. He then, said:
Now, Micah, why aren’t you out there playing? You act like you want some money or something.

Parsons’s mother did appear to be upset with the comment. Parsons is currently the biggest star who is holding out for a contract extension. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin signed a $33 million AAV deal with the Washington Commanders, and edge rusher Trey Hendrickson ended his holdout by restructuring his contract to bump his salary from $14 million to $30 million for the 2025-26 season.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said he will meet with Micah Parsons to discuss his behavior after he was lying on a medical table behind the Cowboys' bench during Friday's preseason game.

He was also the only player not to wear a jersey during the game.

Parsons was in the building for the Falcons game, wearing his Cowboys number 11 hoodie. He looked bored without seeing any action. At one point, cameras caught him sleeping in the dugout.
This act by Parsons divided the fan base into two. However, both wanted an answer from the Pro Bowler. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer promised to speak with Parsons. And, Trevon Diggs told The Athletic that Parsons had to lie down because he felt stiffness in his back.
Hall of Fame cornerback wants the NFLPA to take action against Jerry Jones’ shady negotiation tactics
Parsons is not only a key player for the Cowboys but also one of the top players in the NFL. Dragging out the contract negotiations to spite his agent is a bad look for Jerry Jones.

A fed-up HOF cornerback, Darrell Revis, decided to write an open letter to the NFLPA. Revis urged the committee to step in and resolve the conundrum:
At the very least, the NFLPA should be saying it does not condone what Jerry [Jones] is doing … and reminding players that if ownership ever tries to deal with them directly while represented, they should contact their agent and the union immediately. Every player … deserves a union they can trust to protect them and support them.

Revis made an excellent point. The NFLPA is surprisingly quiet on Parsons’ case. However, the committee itself is going through a difficult period, which could be the reason behind the silence.
The Cowboys must wrap up Parsons’ negotiations because the new season is less than 10 days away. Starting the season without their best player on defense may prove disastrous, considering they play the defending world champions on opening day.
However, quarterback Dak Prescott believes that Parsons will play against the Eagles. Prescott signed a record-breaking $61 million AAV deal in 2024 after playing through consecutive franchise tags.
