The Dallas Cowboys are once again not winning the Super Bowl. The Cowboys were eliminated from playoff contention after their loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16, and the Philadelphia Eagles secured a spot as the NFC East champions following their win over the Washington Commanders.

The Cowboys were one of the finest teams in the league in the 80s and 90s, selling out stadiums and winning national championships. In 1995, Troy Aikman and company led the Cowboys to their fifth and last Super Bowl win when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17 at Super Bowl XXX. Since then, the Cowboys haven’t made the Super Bowl or the NFC Championship Game.

The Dallas Cowboys continued to make waves as the most talked-about team in the league with dramatic offseasons. They have made some questionable decisions regarding the players on the team. And Jerry Jones, the general manager and owner of the Dallas Cowboys, knows that they have played a role in the drought. He told the reporters:

We get one team that gets to go to that Super Bowl every year. Two that get to go to those (conference championship) playoff games. I’m looking forward next year to getting back in that championship game and maybe beyond. And then I’ll be right at the top of the list of how long it’s been since you’ve been to one. And that’s how you do it. Right at the top. And this will all go away.

Jones claimed that the past failures or missed opportunities should not define what the team can achieve now. He even puts it simply, saying that he didn’t dwell on the 30 years before he bought the Cowboys.

He admitted that he believes the Cowboys should be evaluated on where they stand today, not on what they failed to do before. And where they stand today is a point from where they can be a respectable foe next year.

Jones’ optimism stems from the fact that they do have a better draft capital heading into the next Player Selection Meeting and the high-calibre offensive output production this year. They have scored 28.3 points per game, led by quarterback Dak Prescott’s 4,175 passing yards.

The offense was further powered by Javonte Williams, who has rushed for 1,147 yards. Furthermore, they boasted a dominant receiving duo in George Pickens (1,342 yards) and CeeDee Lamb (1,027 yards).

Dak Prescott is happy about Jerry Jones’ enthusiasm

Quarterback Dak Prescott, one of the few consistent bright spots this season, offered a strong vote of confidence in owner and general manager Jerry Jones. Prescott praised Jones’ energy and commitment, noting that his passion to improve the team feels as strong as ever.

According to Prescott, Jones remains fully engaged, motivated by both urgency and opportunity. Prescott claimed that Jones seems eager to make moves that can push the franchise forward. Jones’ aggressive pursuit of Quinnen Williams during the trade deadline would be one such example of what Prescott pointed to. He told the reporters:

Maybe as much here recently as I’ve seen. And whether it’s him against the clock (in life) and him knowing, which he’ll tell you that, or the deals and the things that we’ve done have been invigorating. You can tell he’s excited to help this team to make moves and do whatever he can in his power.

Prescott has emerged as a leader in the Cowboys locker room. After a disappointing season last year, Prescott bounced back this season, already throwing for 4,175 yards with 28 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions. He ranks among the league leaders in multiple passing categories.

His bounce back has alleviated some of the rebuild rumors and toned down the trading calls. Despite the Cowboys being out of the playoff race, the team has no plans to shut him down. Executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed Prescott will continue starting, including the Christmas Day matchup against the Washington Commanders, with the passing yards crown still within reach.
