The season’s halfway finished, but if anything, Jerry Jones knows how to be atop the headlines using a piece that many thought to be an offseason thing. The Micah Parsons-Dallas Cowboys push and pull was the highlight of the 2025 offseason, one that didn’t conclude until very few days for the season to begin.
The preseason was rife with Dallas Cowboys headlining major sports headlines everywhere, and Jones isn’t letting go of such an important spotlight topic vanish so easily. Recently, he brought up an anecdote from the trade days. Reportedly, Jerry Jones was very much willing to send Parsons to the New York Jets for Quinnen Williams instead of the Green Bay Packers.
I tried to get the Jets in training camp. I wanted a (first-round pick) and Parsons for Williams. I thought that much of Williams. He’s showing you what he can do for a defense.

Quinnen Williams has proved to be an asset for the Dallas Cowboys defense, quickly adding a hint of composure and elegance to the fragile system and replacing it with a unit enough to hold the opponents from scoring. He has become the answer to the void that was left when Parsons left the team.
However, Jones’ claim was recently refuted by Connor Hughes of SNY. Hughes reported that though the two sides had a brief discussion, nothing ever came of it.
Zero doubt that Jerry said this. However this was never actually offered to the Jets, I’m told.

There was a conversation between owners. It was a brief one. A Cowboys source told me the Jets weren’t ever going to the monetary value needed to extend Parsons (discussed this Week… https://t.co/19a8L9KSZ1
Nevertheless, Jones bringing up the news has become a talking point, an additional media attention on his franchise.
Quinnen Williams’ arrival sparks Cowboys’ rise as NFC Contenders
With victories over Las Vegas, Kansas City Chiefs, and Philadelphia Eagles, the two being last season’s Super Bowl participants, the Cowboys have climbed to 6–5–1.

On Friday morning, the Cowboys found themselves at the center of the national sports conversation. Amid that wave of attention, former star safety Ryan Clark acknowledged their progress and argued that the Cowboys have positioned themselves to do something they haven’t achieved since the mid-1990s: contend for the NFC title.
Clark highlighted Dak Prescott’s growth, noting that Prescott has delivered in his most important moments over the past two weeks while providing strong leadership during adversity. Clark also emphasized how the addition of George Pickens has transformed the offense. He credited Brian Schottenheimer for maintaining balance with timely runs. On defense, Clark pointed to the elevated play of Quinnen Williams and DeMarvion Overshown as further evidence of the team’s rise.
I believe that Dak Prescott is now a different man, which makes this team different. George Pickens makes this team different… And so when they do get in the playoffs, with the way Quinnen Williams and Overshawn have elevated this defense, they are absolutely true threats to be NFC champions.

The Cowboys enter the final stretch with a schedule that offers both opportunity and risk. Their Week 14 trip to Detroit on Thursday night is arguably the toughest remaining matchup. The Lions are physical, well-coached, and strong at home, making this a potential swing game in the NFC playoff race.
They have two back-to-back home games following the game against the Lions. The Week 15 game would be an easy affair, given the Minnesota Vikings’ struggles this season. JJ McCarthy has failed to find the rhythm after sustaining yet another injury and currently is in concussion protocol. The Los Angeles Chargers are boosted after a long break and they are one of the other hard fights that the Cowboys have to play.
In Week 17, Dallas heads to Washington on Christmas, a game they should control despite the usual unpredictability of division matchups. They finish the season in Week 18 against the Giants, another road game that leans in their favor.
