A couple of weeks after calling Jerry Jones out for mishandling Micah Parsons’ contract negotiations, Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin invited the Cowboys owner for an exclusive interview on his fast-growing YouTube channel. During the interview, Jones unleashed a series of shocking revelations, including a jab at Parsons’ agent.

Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Keeping that in mind, he asked the Cowboys’ front office to give him a new deal.

Despite his appeal, Jones distanced himself from the negotiation table. As a result, Parsons requested a trade and decided to hold out from team practice.

According to sources, Jones refused to engage with Parsons’ agent, which annoyed the All-Pro pass rusher.

Although Jones may seem responsible for the fallout, the veteran general manager said he was prepared to make Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. To support his point, he highlighted Dak Prescott becoming the highest-paid quarterback and CeeDee Lamb securing a lucrative deal.

The world would know I want Micah if they knew what I offered him… It would’ve made him the highest-guaranteed player other than a quarterback in the NFL.

Parsons is set to earn around $24 million on his current contract. He watched Myles Garrett set the tone with a $40 million a year extension, which was later broken by the Steelers when they agreed to a $41 million extension with TJ Watt.

Jones claimed the Cowboys and Parsons came close to wrapping up the negotiation process, but they hit a brick wall.

When we wanted to send [the offer discussed with Parsons] over to the agent, he told us to stick it up our a**. The least incremental part of the whole equation is the attorney or agent.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter on SportsCenter painted a bleak picture of the entire scenario. He heard from people inside the Cowboys facility that there hasn’t been any talk about a new deal since April. There’s doubt whether they would resume the negotiations anytime soon, even though the roster deadline is coming closer.

It’s gotten personal, and they’re no closer to a deal, and there’s no reason to think that the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons will be able to work out a deal before the start of the regular season.

The Cowboys’ defense lacked conviction last year. Its effect was reflected in their blowout losses. They allowed 468 total points (31st in the league). Pro Football Focus ranked them 25th at the end of a 7-10 season.

Even though the system looked dodgy, barely hanging on for a miracle, Parsons looked sharp and delivered regularly. The 26-year-old recorded 43 combined tackles on 70 pressures, 12 sacks, and 12 tackles for loss. He received an overall grade of 90.

The Cowboys need Parsons’ services at the base of the defense, especially going up against the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles in week one of the new season. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer remains optimistic.

The business side of it is going to take care of itself. I think at the end of the day, we feel like Micah’s going to be out there when we line up against Philadelphia here in 15 days or whatever it is.

The Eagles will pose a tough opening-day challenge for Schottenheimer’s Cowboys. According to BetMGM, the Eagles are -7 (-105) favorites to defeat their NFC rivals.
