The Dallas Cowboys’ offseason was marked by one of the longest contract extension dramas in the past few decades. The Cowboys’ management, led by Jerry Jones and four-time Pro Bowler linebacker Micah Parsons, was engaged in a hostile contract standoff.
The management failed to reach an agreement with the linebacker, leading to Micah Parsons’ trade away from the Cowboys. Parsons signed a four-year deal with the Green Bay Packers, which also made him one of the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in league history.
He made his debut for the Packers against the Detroit Lions, where they registered their first home win over the Lions since 2021. The Lions had defeated the Packers in their last three encounters at Lambeau Field ahead of Sunday’s matchup. Parsons recorded three pressures and one sack, playing 29 defensive snaps in the game.
The linebacker made an instant impact in the game. The Packers QB Jordan Love admitted that Parsons’ presence was very much visible in the defense. He added that Parsons brought a strong energy to the crowd. However, his former boss, Jerry Jones looked at his performance from a slightly different angle.
Jones pointed towards the back issue that Parsons had complained about in the weeks leading to his trade. It was highly theorized that Parsons might use his back issue to sit out the season until Jones straightens out his contract. Jones said, as per Jon Machota:
From what I saw of him I thought he was able to get in there and play without any influence from his back and I say that with a straight face. I do…wish him well.

Micah Parsons calls the past six months “toxic”
In the aftermath of the Green Bay Packers’ resounding 27-13 win over the Detroit Lions, Micah Parsons spoke with a reporter where he opened up about the last few months in Dallas. Parsons had a critical take on how the negotiations made him feel and how the atmosphere shifted.

In a conversation with the media officials, Parsons revealed that the last six months he spent in the city was toxic, adding that no player should ever be treated the same as he was.
These last six months was super draining, super toxic for everyone. It’s something that I don’t think no player should have to go through.
Parsons, despite his late addition to the team, made tremendous waves in the defense. The Packers were able to execute different defensive packages and secure an advantage with Parsons on the roster. The 26-year-old also added the element of speed to the team, recording a top speed of 18.47 mph when he chased down Goff for his fourth-quarter sack, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.
Parsons didn’t miss mentioning how egregious it was for a player to join a franchise with just one week remaining for the official season start. He had quite a few incidents that revealed that the player is still learning the quirks of the Packers.
Parsons strayed to the wrong side, the side the Cowboys use, when coming out for practice. Similarly, he was also unaware of the fact that the Packers’ defensive huddle conducted a mock fadeaway basketball jumper instead of a handshake.
