Jerry Jones refuses to speculate on Dak Prescott’s future with Cowboys after making CeeDee Lamb the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history

Dallas Cowboys GM Jerry Jones isn’t all bothered about Dak Prescott right now. The Prescott contract drama continues to be stagnant for now as the player entered his final year of terms with the Dallas outfit.
With the regular season kicking off in barely a week and half, the Cowboys owner spoke to the media and reporters on Wednesday. He feels that he has done what needs to be done for the time being, and it shall remain as it has been. The GM also seemed pretty confident that he will be able to secure a deal with Prescott without much challenges in the near future.
It looks like Jones is going to wait out to see how Prescott performs and then issue out a contract. Former Denver Broncos player Shannon Sharpe likened the Cowboys’ dilly-dallying to a relationship, one where you don’t know if you are ready for a long-term commitment.
Jones has secured CeeDee Lamb for four years with a historic deal for $34 million a season, making him second-highest paid non-QB in the league. Lamb’s contract came after much delaying, with the player nudging the management with Instagram posts. Now that Lamb is here, Jones would love to keep composure and do nothing.
Lamb wasn't here, Dak is here. So we really don't have more (things to do to have the team on the field Week 1). It’ll remain as it’s been.Jerry Jones said
Jerry Jones on the latest on Dak Prescott’s contract: “That hasn’t changed. … Lamb wasn’t here, Dak is here. So we really don’t have more (things to do to have the team on the field Week 1). … It’ll remain as it’s been.” pic.twitter.com/J2WkHf4StF

Prescott signed a four year, $160 million no trade clause in 2021. He will be paid $29 million base salary in 2024 and would ideally become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The Dallas Cowboys will have NFL’s second largest salary cap figure on their hands in such a situation.
Prescott loves Dallas and has expressed his desire to stay with the team. But when it comes to a contract extension, the question remains: how many years? As he enters his ninth season as a starter, Prescott has yet to reach a Championship game, let alone win a ring. Wouldn’t he consider moving to a team with better chances? Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see what decision owner and GM Jerry Jones makes.
Jerry Jones claims he’s the best GM, but results show otherwise
Jerry Jones took on the roles of GM and President while owning the team in 1989. The 2024 season marks his 32nd year in charge. After finalizing the Lamb deal, Jones declared that he’s the best they’ve had and has no plans to step down.
Stephen A Smith ripped into Jones regarding the same. He ridiculed Jones for calling himself a great. Smith continues to pour down facts. While the Cowboys did win under Jones’ leadership in the 1990s, the team’s success has faltered since then. Since 1996, the Cowboys have only recorded five playoff victories, compared to having had seven different head coaches during that time.
The Cowboys haven’t been to a Championship game in 28 long years. They have a long history of fumbling in the Wild Card Playoffs or the Divisional Playoffs. Last season, they lost to the underdogs Green Bay Packers.
America’s team will return to action against the Cleveland Browns on Sep 8. They will look forward to changing the string of disappointing seasons, starting with defending their NFC East title and hopefully make the playoffs.
