When Jerry Jones traded away star pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, the Dallas Cowboys owner thought he was killing two birds with one stone.

On one hand, he could avoid paying the $47 million a year that the Packers gave his former player. On the other hand, Jerry Jones could use the incoming Kenny Clark to shore up the Cowboys’ run defense.

Even though that experiment seemed to work in the first couple of weeks, America’s Team has since become the leakiest football team in the league.

They have given up a league-high 2470 combined yards, as well as an average of 30.7 points per game, which happens to be the league’s second worst. None of this screams confidence, and it has resulted in a tie against the Packers and two embarrassing losses.

One of them was to defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus‘ former Chicago Bears; the other was the embarrassing Week 6 loss to the Carolina Panthers. With that in mind, reporters asked Jerry Jones if he has any plans to change coordinators.

I think you will see adjustments. When we have adjustments, they have been successful. The good news is that Flus (Matt Eberflus) had a lot of experience. He’s had some good days, he’s had some bad days… I got a lot of confidence in him.

Jerry Jones replied as recorded by Jon Machota

It seems the 83-year-old is not willing to let go of Matt Eberflus at the moment. He wants his defensive coordinator to tap into his experience and work out ways to improve the Cowboys’ defense.

Fans lose their minds at Jerry Jones’ stubbornness

Dallas Cowboys fans have become accustomed to Jerry Jones’ stubbornness on several matters. Be it his reluctance to accept that his efforts to reinforce the team before the 2024 season were a failure, or that he needed to let go of his role as GM.

In this scenario, fans have witnessed Matt Eberflus’ defense struggle mightily, costing them winnable games. They believe the coach has been struggling to be good at his job since his Bears days, and that the writing for him as a coach is on the wall.

Fans hope Jerry Jones understands that his defense has declined despite having most of the players from last season. That is a clear indication that the onus is on the coordinator.

Watching Jones deflect the need for a change, fans took to social media to vent their frustrations. Check out examples of those heated reactions below:

If Matt Eberflus has to keep his job, he has to ensure that his defense does not become the reason for any upcoming losses. They have a tough task playing against the Washington Commanders and the Denver Broncos next. Both teams are capable of exploiting this weakness.

Stephen A. Smith believes the Dallas Cowboys are ‘soft’

Whenever the Dallas Cowboys struggle, there is no one happier than Stephen A. Smith. Even though he is a good friend of Jerry Jones, the ESPN analyst does not leave any chance to troll the franchise.

While speaking on First Take, Smith and his crew were discussing the embarrassing loss to the Carolina Panthers. To sum up what he saw from the defense, the 57-year-old analyst said this:

Take the D out of defense. I’ve called them the Allas Cowboys… They have no defense whatsoever. They’re considered soft. Nobody’s worried about them.

Stephen A. Smith said

He brought up Rico Dowdle‘s taunt and then superlative performance to give context as to why he thinks America’s Team has become ‘soft’. Smith believes their situation has become embarrassing.
