While there’s no doubt after a fifth-consecutive loss that the Dallas Cowboys offense has been incompetent, what surprised everyone the most is lack of rushing attack by Dak Prescott. But looks like owner Jerry Jones has an answer for that as well.

The biggest contributor to Prescott’s standout performance last year was his rushing game, which made him the highest-paid quarterback in the history of the NFL with an annual salary of $60 million. Despite the disappointing end to last season, fans were not upset with the star quarterback’s performance but this season, everything has changed.

The 82-year-old was asked why the three-time Pro Bowler isn’t running the ball– whether it’s because he isn’t capable or doesn’t want to. And his response apparently conflicted the whole situation even more.

I think it’s both. His ability to run is-there’s no question as far as him physically. He can run.

He elaborated on the matter further in his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan, sharing that the team is restricting Prescott’s rushing attack (10 carries in eight weeks), to reduce the risk of injuries.

You really don’t want to see him really take off with that ball. These quarterbacks that run, you know they’re going to get injured. And that happens. It happens to the youngest, it happens to the best. It has happened to Dak.

After performing to the MVP level last season, the Cowboys’ signal-callers performance hasn’t been impactful for the team as they have dropped to a 3-4 season record

Jerry Jones satisfied with Dak Prescott’s overall performance

Regardless of how much Prescott’s limited rushing game is impacting the team, not to mention jeopardizing their chance of clinching a playoff berth; Jones emphasized that the Cowboys want the quarterback to be “smart about it.” Additionally, Prescott is likely to record career-low rushing output this season with only 24 rushing yards.

I don’t want to see him take those kinds of hits

Jones further shared that he has been satisfied with the performance of the quarterback, whom he made the highest-paid player in the NFL’s history. In the eight games, he has posted 1,845 yards with 10 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, and 47.5 QBR.

Although the Second-team All-Pro’s performance has been fairly decent compared to players of his position, his rushing game has been completely off. Given that he used to average 3.4 rush attempts but this season, it has dropped down to 1.4 rushing attempts.
