Despite how anti-climatically the season ended for the Dallas Cowboys last season when owner Jerry Jones extended head coach Mike McCarthy’s contract, it became evident that he doesn’t blame the head coach for the team’s failure. He expressed similar emotions this Sunday when reporters asked about firing McCarthy.

Losing the fourth consecutive home game, including last season’s playoff elimination, the Cowboys’ Super Bowl aspiration appears to be blurring. They are coming off the most bizarre and embarrassing loss of a long time against the Detroit Lions by losing 47-9. Not only did their offense fail to put points on the scoreboard, but their defense couldn’t impact the solid O-line of Detroit.

Usually in such scenarios with a team, the head coach’s job comes in jeopardy, and considering the criticism the front office received over extending McCarthy’s contract, everyone is wondering if Jones is thinking about firing him. Although the 82-year-old asserted previously that he has no plans of parting ways with the head coach, the questions keep coming without any end in sight.

I haven’t considered that. I am not considering it. So you clear? I am not considering that. I wouldn’t be hypothetical in that matter. Do you think I’m an idiot? Do you? Well, I’m not going to hypothetical with you about would I consider a coaching change in light of the timing we’re sitting here with. I’m not. At all.

Jerry Jones snapped at a reporter when again asked about McCarthy’s future

The Cowboys owner, who turned 82 on Sunday when his team collapsed on the field, made it very clear to everyone asking about the franchise’s plan with McCarthy that he is not considering a change in that arena at this moment.

Owner Jerry Jones refuses to blame head coach Mike McCarthy

Following this loss, the Cowboys have sunken to second last place within the division with a season standing of 3-3. They have lost three consecutive home games this season, which is the first time since the 2010 NFL season, and are now headed for their bye week.

Despite their deteriorating performance, Jones clarified that he doesn’t hold the head coach entirely responsible.

Well, we’re disappointed that we’re 3-3. The three-loss side of it, I don’t necessarily totally blame on McCarthy. The players will tell you they had something to do with it, too. His other parts of the staff will tell you. And the owner sure will tell you he had something to do with it, so it’s not all on him.

Jerry Jones said post-game

Meanwhile, quarterback Dak Prescott took responsibility for the defeat and admitted that the offense needs to improve and so does he. He considered this game as “humbling” but at the same time, he has decided not to panic and rather focus on the upcoming games.
