Despite not playing a game in Week 7, the Dallas Cowboys being America’s team are still a part of discussions across the footballing community. With analysis still ongoing about Jerry Jones and his mismanagement of this season’s roster, the conversations have not yet reached any apparent problems in Mike McCarthy and his coaching staff or Dak Prescott‘s play.
The 82-year-old owner though has been defiant about his lack of offseason moves so far. He even tried to suggest that not signing a proven running back such as Derrick Henry was borne out of the need to play according to the system.
But analysts have not stopped at calling him out for making an asinine excuse not signing the otherworldly ground pounder. Now a week after berating the radio hosts of 105.3 The Fan, Jones was back with another interesting take.
This statement might not be a direct hit at Mike McCarthy. But when talking about bad plays and concepts, it was abundantly clear who the intended recipient was. This is Jerry Jones’ first shot at his head coach after that drubbing by the Detroit Lions.

But it surely comes as a surprise as Dak Prescott had made it clear that the lack of a running game has affected their passing game. So, for the owner to point to coaching issues indicates he is not willing to accept that his inability to sign a proven running back has hindered his team.
Jerry Jones doubles down on current roster
If Jerry Jones found coaching issues to be a problem, the lack of execution must have also been evident. That is because there is a severe lack of elite players on this Dallas Cowboys roster. But even then, he has doubled down on his current squad.
The owner cum GM does not seem to want to concede that there are glaring holes on this team. Those holes were evident a few weeks into the offseason. Had he chosen to act early, he could have filled some of the slots available with quality players. Instead, he chose to make Dak Prescott the highest-paid player despite not having a postseason record to talk about.
With future cap space and draft picks at a premium, he cannot bring in suitable reinforcements. Considering all that, opponents might be grinning at the thought of facing this depleted Dallas Cowboys.
