Jerry Jones’ track record of mid-season coaching shakes may be Mike McCarthy’s lifeline after humiliating home loss to Eagles
Jerry Jones will not fire Mike McCarthy mid-season despite his Dallas Cowboys losing embarrassingly to Philadelphia Eagles.

Jerry Jones knew without Dak Prescott, his Dallas Cowboys would struggle against any team. But even then, he was hoping that Mike McCarthy would use backup QB Cooper Rush’s previous game performance to play decently against the Philadelphia Eagles.
But it turned out to be anything but a decent performance as the Eagles stifled the Cowboys in an embarrassing 34-6 blowout. That too at home when, to his horror, away fans dominated ticket sales as Cowboys fans preferred to stay away.
It was also embarrassing for Jerry Jones when sunlight caused leading receiver CeeDee Lamb to miss the only easy touchdown chance they had all game. But none so much as when his players could not get themselves going especially the offense.
With such an inept performance, especially from an offensive-minded head coach, questions came up if Mike McCarthy was not doing enough. The 82-year-old owner-cum-GM has already faced enough misery to come to a conclusion.
This was The Athletic reporter John Machota’s post on X after listening to Jerry Jones respond to questions about McCarthy’s future. His previous experiences with firing coaches mid-season has probably saved the head coach’s job.

In a time when head coaches are let go after a few disappointing games, for Mike McCarthy to stay on was probably the best birthday gift Jones could give him. At least now both owner and head coach have lost games embarrassingly on their birthdays.
Jerry Jones allegedly left in the middle of blowout loss
For a passionate owner such as Jerry Jones, it will be disappointing if his team loses a close game. But a blowout loss is as embarrassing as it could get. More so, at home, when fans paying him millions through ticket and merchandise sales take their frustrations out on him.
After a close first half, the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the second half. So much so that an entire quarter remained to play, but the team was down more than three scores. With such a mountain to climb, it seemed it was too much for the multi-billionaire to take.

When cameras panned on to his VIP suite, it showed an empty chair beside his son, Stephen Jones. Usually, the 82-year-old patriarch takes his place there, but this time, it seemed he was not around. It also happened just after backup quarterback Cooper Rush fumbled the ball for the second time.
That Eagles took over the drive, ending any chance for the Dallas Cowboys to make any headway back. Jones did eventually come back to his seat, but pictures of the empty seat went viral on social media. Fans felt, he had thrown in the towel after analysts threw in theirs after learning of Dak Prescott’s injury.
