Micah Parsons’ trade request has did little to sway Jerry Jones’ decision. The owner/general manager of the Dallas Cowboys will not trade his star pass rusher.
A day after Parsons wrote an open letter to the Cowboys hierarchy for a trade, Jones spoke with the media to make it clear that this is nothing new for him. He witnessed the same from several players throughout his three-decade-long tenure at Arlington.
I would say to our fans, don’t lose any sleep over this.

Jones claimed a trade request is part of the negotiation and nothing more. Despite the nonchalant attitude, Jones avoided mentioning whether Parsons will play against the Philadelphia Eagles in week one of the 2025 season.

Despite the big announcement, Parsons showed up at Oxnard as per ESPN’s Todd Archer. Surprisingly, he wasn’t wearing his number 11 gear. Regardless, he practiced with the quarterbacks and participated in a few defense drills.
Archer revealed that Jones and Parsons are not in touch, despite the 26-year-old being among the few individuals to possess Jones’ personal cell phone number.
Jerry Jones hinted at the amount he offered Micah Parsons
The feud began when Jones refused to deal with Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta. From Jones’ perspective, a contract negotiation only requires the player and the party that’s paying him.

Sure, negotiating directly with the player was prevalent when he took over in the late 1980s, but the situation is different in 2025. Players employ agents to handle contracts and other financial matters.
Parsons did not appreciate Jones’ methods. He warned Jones of repercussions. Despite his warning, Parsons attended training camp on day one but was met with a jab from Jones when reporters asked about the status of the contract.
It was the last nail in the coffin of Parsons and Jones’s relationship. Shortly after, Parsons requested a trade from the Cowboys.
On Saturday, Jones revealed that he’s not bothered by the request. Furthermore, he confessed to offering Parsons a large sum of money, which the media isn’t privy to.
What y’all don’t know is what I offered him and it’s a helluva lot more than you think I did… My point is I reached. Make no mistake about it. I reached.

The feud began in March when Myles Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns. Parsons repeatedly reminded the brass to pay him before the market resets.
Jones did not listen. One by one, Maxx Crosby and TJ Watt completed their extensions. Watt became the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history with a $41 million per year deal.
Now, Micah Parsons wants more. According to Spotrac, Parsons is set to earn $24,007,000 in 2025 and hopes to sign an extension in the range of $43 million per year.
The Athletic’s Jon Machota asked Jones to describe the negotiation process with Parsons. Jones replied with an example.
When I grew up I knew when momma wouldn’t let me do something, going to daddy and daddy letting me do it. Then going back in and saying to momma, ‘Daddy said I could do it.’ That old momma/daddy stuff, we got here doing that by nature. We’re not going to do that.

It’s clear that Jones isn’t ready to throw in the towel, and neither is Parsons. The Cowboys fans are the ones being punished amidst all this. They wanted a drama-free training camp. Well, there’s always next year to look forward to.
