Patrick Mahomes is on the brink of securing a historic three-peat, with chants of the Kansas City Chiefs dynasty picking up noise. In just his 8th season in the NFL, Mahomes has achieved enough that many believe even if the Chiefs don’t win the three-peat, the 28-year-old deserves to be in the GOAT conversation.

One of them is arguably the best receiver to play the game, Jerry Rice. The Hall of Famer played with Joe Montana from 1985 to ’92 and was around in the league long enough to play against Tom Brady. So, he definitely is the right man for the job.

Patrick Mahomes would probably say no, but you gotta put him up there now. The dynasty we had for so many years with the San Francisco 49ers, We're starting to see that with the Kansas City Chiefs now.
Jerry Rice said

Despite the praise, the 61-year-old doesn’t want the Chiefs to win 3 Super Bowls in a row.

We don't want them to three-peat. We really don't want that to happen.
Jerry Rice added

It seems ESPN listened to Rice’s words. According to their latest odds, the San Francisco 49ers are +550 favorites to lift the Lombardi for the first time since his last ring in 1995. The 49ers have played in the Super Bowl three times since then, most recently against the Chiefs in February 2024.

Patrick Mahomes believes completing the three-peat will be legendary

Last season, the Chief defied the odds to reach and win the Super Bowl, following their struggle early on. Mahomes and Co. found themselves in familiar grounds after they squeezed into the playoffs and secured back-to-back Lombardi’s.

Now they have the chance to make it three in a row, and the all-pro signal caller claimed it would be a historic achievement.

It's legendary. No one's ever done it, and we knew it's legendary to win back-to-back.
Patrick Mahomes said in February. (H/T: NFL.com)

No team has managed to win three consecutive championship games in the NFL era. However, the Green Bay Packers, under the leadership of Bart Starr and Vince Lombardi, won four back-to-back in the pre-merger era.

The Chiefs got off to the best possible start in week 1 after getting the better of the Baltimore Ravens by a toe. Up next, they will face the challenge of the Cincinnati Bengals.
