Jesse Lingard hasn’t been at his best in recent times and his exclusion from the squad is justified

Jesse Lingard was cut out from Manchester United’s core 22 man squad as new signing Amad Diallo was drafted in at his expense. It is widely expected that Jesse Lingard will be loaned now and there are no shortage of potential suitors for him. Lingard has not featured much for Manchester United for a long time with injuries and lack of form the main reason. A move to any other lower ranked Premier League club will benefit him and boost his chances for being selected for Euro 2021.

Too much competition for too little spots in midfield in Manchester United

Naturally talented Donny Van de Beek who was signed for big money hasn’t featured for Manchester United a lot because of the competition. Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Fred make up Manchester United’s midfield and they’ve been consistent at best. Donny Van de Beek had a good season with Ajax and even he hasn’t been able to break into the squad and it is no wonder that Jesse Lingard hasn’t played for Manchester United even when he is fit.

The Englishman has been wasteful of his chances when he has received it and never did seem to justify his place in the team. Lingard hit his peak in the 2017/18 season and never did seem to hit those levels again in the seasons that followed. Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer tried his best to defend his inclusion in Manchester United’s squad but ultimately even he ran out of excuses to keep him in the squad.

Now Lingard finds himself out of the squad and it is increasingly likely that he will be loaned to some other lower ranked club in the Premier League. Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are interested in him according to reports and it will be interesting to see where he will be.
