Earlier this year, Novak Djokovic worked with longtime rival Andy Murray, who joined his team about four months after his own retirement at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Since the partnership bore no fruit, it ended after six months.
Under the Scot, Djokovic played the semifinals of the Australian Open and the final of the Miami Open. In Melbourne, his run ended in a complete disaster as an injury forced him to give the walkover to eventual runner-up Alexander Zverev in the semifinals. In Miami, the 24-time Grand Slam champion lost to Jakub Mensik. While he was competing at the Australian Open, Jessica Pegula overheard a conversation between him and Murray.
I definitely saw them. I remember that Australia was the first event, and Novak was on the bike, and he was just there talking about his court positioning and what he should do.
Jessica Pegula said during The Player’s Box Podcast
Pegula reached the third round, only to suffer a straight-set defeat at the hands of Olga Danilovic. She ended the season after playing six finals and clinching three titles, including two WTA 500 events in Charleston and Bad Homburg.
I was thinking what could they possibly be talking about? Novak does everything well. They are so good. How!? Is this really making a difference? But it was interesting to see them interacting like that. I think he was so interested.
Jessica Pegula added
Pegula was last seen in action at the WTA Finals, where she reached the semifinals, only to suffer a three-set defeat at the hands of eventual champion Elena Rybakina. She made it to two WTA 1000 finals, in Miami and Wuhan, losing both to World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka and World No.3 Coco Gauff, respectively.
Carlos Alcaraz on Novak Djokovic’s 24 Grand Slam title goal
Carlos Alcaraz is the second man to win six Grand Slam titles. This season, the Spaniard featured in three Major finals, losing at Wimbledon but winning the French Open and the US Open by defeating his arch-rival Jannik Sinner.

He was last seen in action at the ATP Finals, where he was denied the title by Sinner, who defended his crown and increased his winning streak to 31 matches. During his interview with El Partidazo de Cope, Alcaraz was asked whether he wants to break Novak Djokovic‘s 24 Grand Slam titles record.
That’s the goal. The goal at the end of my career. I can see that I can sit at the table with them and that people think I can. I think I can do it. I think if I thought I was not capable, there would be no goals, no ambition, no nothing, right? So I think that’s something important, to have goals, to have ambition, and I think that I can achieve that.
The 22-year-old met the 38-year-old two times, winning one and losing one. It was Alcaraz who stopped Djokovic from progressing to the US Open final to improve his head-to-head record to 4-5.
Alcaraz lifted eight titles from 11 finals, the most on the men’s tour this season. Following the ATP Finals, he wanted to represent Spain in the Davis Cup finals, but his hamstring injury forced him to withdraw from the tournament, which kicked off on November 18 in Bologna.
Djokovic won two titles this season. After becoming the third man in the Open Era to win 100 or more titles by defeating Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the Geneva Open final, Djokovic won the first edition of the Hellenic Championship by defeating Lorenzo Musetti. Later, fitness issues forced him to skip the year-end championships, where he is a record seven-time winner and last lifted it in 2023.
