Jessica Pegula has been the best player on Tour this season. The American has reached five finals, won two titles, and is leading with the most match-win of the season with 25. There have been recent comparisons that she has gotten to the level of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. However, she believes she has a strong point over the duo.

Pegula finished the 2024 season on a high after reaching three consecutive finals. She, however, won one of them and lost two, including the US Open final. The 31-year-old started the year reaching the Adelaide International final but lost to Australian Open champion Madison Keys. The American waited until February to make him her first title at the ATX Open in Austin.

At the Miami Open, she enjoyed one of the best runs of her season and reached the final but couldn’t get past Sabalenka. Nonetheless, her unrelenting desire for titles paid off at the Charleston Open, where she claimed her second WTA title of the season and first on the clay court.

Pegula outstanding performance has made her to be compared with Sabalenka and Swiatek, who have showed more consistency than other WTA players. When asked about that at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix press conference, she revealed that she’s happy at producing great results on daily basis on the court.

I’ve even been able to break into the top five, go deep in a Grand Slam last year, and win a WTA 1000. You always think you can, but I never thought I would be able to do it consistently. When I was younger, that wasn’t my strong point. I don’t know how I’ve managed to do it. Maybe I’m very relaxed, maybe it’s my mentality; it has happened naturally. Compared to Aryna or Iga, I feel like consistency is a strong point I have. Even though I haven’t won a Grand Slam yet, I’m happy to be able to get good results week after week.

Coco and I played a lot together for a couple of years, we did great, had many good results, and really incredible memories. At the same time, we were doing well in singles, so obviously, we didn’t want to play doubles as much anymore. The schedule becomes very, very tough. I have hardly played doubles this year, probably won’t play any of the Grand Slams this year in that category.

Gauff and Pegula won five doubles titles across the 2022 and 2023 seasons. They also made it to the French Open doubles final in 2022. The American duo appeared only in five tournaments last year and so far this year, they haven’t had any appearance.
