Aaron Rodgers was a massive reason Dalvin Cook signed with the New York Jets last season after leaving the Minnesota Vikings. It was exciting news for the Big Apple residents because they finally had championship-caliber players on their team.

That smile lasted only half an hour into the Jets’ first game of the 2023 NFL season. Cook stood on the sidelines as Rodgers took a tumble and a few moments later the doctors announced the veteran quarterback was out for the rest of the season due to a torn Achilles.

When Aaron went down on Play 4, everything was just a little bit different. There wasn't any emergency plan. ... Aaron went down Play 4, and it was just kind of like, 'What [do] we do?' That's just what it was.
Dalvin Cook said as per Todd Archer of ESPN.

The Jets reverted back to their old methods and finished the season with a 7-10 record. Dalvin Cook barely featured for them as second-year back Breece Hall took most of the reps. He only rushed for 214 yards on 67 carries with no touchdowns.

Dalvin Cook on his new role at Dallas Cowboys

Cook’s Jets tenure ended with the regular season. The Baltimore Ravens came calling as they needed cover for Gus Edwards. The AFC #1 seed was pushing for a return to the Super Bowl. Cook played against the Houston Texans in the divisional playoff game, carrying the ball 8 times for 23 yards. The Ravens eventually fell short in the next round against the eventual champions the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cook entered free agency once more and waited patiently until the Dallas Cowboys out of nowhere invited him for a visit on Tuesday. A day later the Cowboys signed the 29-year-old to their practice squad.

At Minnesota, Cook was the main man but the Cowboys have the longtime servant and back for his second stint, Ezekiel Elliott ahead of him, and youngster Rico Dowdle in the pecking order. When the reporters asked Cook about his role in the Cowboys team, the 4x Pro Bowler revealed he’s ready to contribute in whichever way possible.

Help everybody and be productive. That's just my mindset. I'm going to be ready to go, being around Zeke, I can obviously learn a lot from him.
Dalvin Cook said.

The Cowboys can elevate Cook to the game-day squad three times, but before that, they must add him to the 53-man roster. Even if he missed the last season and is almost 30, Cook believes he’s still the same Dalvin Cook who ran consecutive 1100 yards (2019-2022) and put up a best of 1557 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns (2021).
