The Detroit Lions’ loss to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round was celebrated by the latter’s fanbase and the front office of the New York Jets. The team has been on the lookout for its next Head Coaching candidate after a tumultuous season filled with a few ups and a lot of downs.

The Jets have been eyeing Detroit’s defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as a viable candidate to lead the team. His work with the Lions’ has been phenomenal and had it not been for the injury-plagued season of their defense, Detroit would probably still be in the playoffs.

Aaron Glenn was interviewed by the New York Jets for the first time a few weeks ago. Now, the team has called him for an in-person interview as per Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The team is unlikely to waste much time in determining if he is the right fit for the role as the New Orleans Saints are another team considering him for their HC vacancy.

The Jets occupy a special place in Aaron Glenn’s heart. This is because the team drafted him in 1994 and he spent the first eight seasons of his professional career there. He then played three years with the Houston Texans, two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, one with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and one with the New Orleans Saints.

Aaron Glenn will have a talented defensive roster to work with in New York. With players such as Haason Reddick and Sauce Gardner, he can do a better job than his predecessor Jeff Ulbrich who recently took the DC job with the Falcons. Interestingly, Glenn began coaching in 2012 and took the Detroit role in 2021. Under his tutelage, the Lions were never viewed as a great defense but his performance over the last season is impressive.

This is because, despite the multitude of injuries that the team faced, Glenn made the best out of what he had and the Lions finished seventh in the NFL in terms of points allowed. The Lions are likely to lose both of their coordinators to opposing teams this off-season. While Glenn is being pursued by the Saints and Jets, his counterpart Ben Johnson is being pursued by the Chicago Bears.

The Jets will hope to move quickly as the team has interviewed multiple candidates like Glenn, Ron Rivera, Rex Ryan, Matt Nagy, Steve Spagnuolo, Josh McCowb, and Arthur Smith. The team interviewed Mike Vrabel for their vacancy but the Patriots hired him for their Head Coaching role.
