After months of back-and-forth, it’s finally official: the New York Jets are parting ways with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers after a two-year unsuccessful run. And seeing the wave of reactions across social media, it seems fans have been waiting for this moment.
On Thursday, the Jets announced that they are moving on from the four-time NFL MVP, hosting a press conference to wish him the best wishes for the future. The new head coach Aaron Glenn and General Manager Darren Mougey released a joint statement, without revealing the reason for Rodgers’ departure.
Last week we met with Aaron and shared that our intention was to move in a different direction at quarterback. It was important to have this discussion now to provide clarity and enable each of us the proper time to plan for our respective futures.
Aaron Glenn’s statement read
Despite the restraining relationship with franchise co-owner Woody Johnson, Rodgers departed on good terms. Johnson also expressed his gratitude towards him, stating, “I will forever be grateful that he chose to join us to continue his Hall of Fame career.”

Rodgers’ stint in New York has been for the books but for all the wrong reasons. After missing his entire debut season due to an Achilles injury at the age of 40, the veteran quarterback managed to win only five games in his second campaign. With the change in management and coaching staff, many expected Glenn to continue with the ten-time Pro Bowler but he seems to be approaching an entirely different approach.
Fans react to Aaron Rodgers’ departure from Jets
The highly anticipated news has detonated quite a reaction from fans across social media, with many enjoying the news while some expressed disappointment. Interestingly, the Minnesota Vikings’ name was surprisingly seen a lot of times as fans suggested that they could be a possible landing spot for Rodgers since retirement is not his plan for now.

One fan wrote, “What a colossal failure,” referring to his experiment in New York as an utter collapse. While another wrote, “Well Jets a bit too late, I wonder if Adam’s is done with the jets too.” Here are some of the fan reactions:

With this move, the Jets will incur a significant $49 million dead cap. They can lessen the blow by designating the former Super Bowl champion a post-June 1 release, which would split the cap hit over two seasons: $14 million in 2025 and $35 million in 2026.
