When Aaron Rodgers decided to skip the mandatory minicamp to visit Egypt, the entire footballing world went into a frenzy. Fans and analysts alike could not understand why he would miss the camp after being out injured last season. A camp can help him build chemistry with his New York Jets teammates as their goal is to win a Super Bowl. However, since Rodgers is now back, he has been putting in the work with his teammates.
In between those practices Aaron Rodgers sat down with the morning drive sports radio show, Boomer & Gio on WAFN. When asked about his trip to Egypt, he had quite a few words to say.
It was one of the few places in life where it kind of exceeded the expectations, to be honest. The only other place that was kind of like that time was when I went to Augusta.Aaron Rodgers said
It might seem to be an apples-to-oranges comparison. Especially since Egypt is all sand and Augusta is lush green. But Rodgers may have a point here. Egypt manages to enthral anyone who pays a visit to the African nation. The pyramids and the culture make one believe that humans can do a lot with imagination. On the other hand, Augusta, Georgia, has the landscape and surroundings to make anyone feel ecstatic.
However, even Boomer and Gio laughed about it as no one would expect one to compare Egypt, a top tourist destination to a place that only gets mentioned during the Masters. But Aaron Rodgers is known to see a lot of things differently. Maybe this was one of them.
Aaron Rodgers made an honest mistake with Egypt travel plans
When Aaron Rodgers returned from his Egypt trip, the first question reporters at the New York Jets press conference asked was what caused him to miss the mandatory training camp.
Originally scheduled it based on a previous year schedule. Which had us out I believe by the ninth or tenth. Once I saw the schedule, I was trying to move some things. It just didn't happen.Aaron Rodgers said
Essentially his planning was based on the OTA dates of last season. Therefore, it was an honest mistake. As the trip was already planned beforehand.
The former league MVP knew the excuse would be talked about the moment he saw this year’s schedule. But he did say that he and head coach Robert Saleh had conversations about it, and they were fine with it. The Jets naturally fined him, as they would with any player.
Now Rodgers is healthy, active and working with his teammates to build confidence. The team with a few new core pieces is looking to fulfill their goal of winning a Super Bowl. After all, that was the reason they traded to bring Aaron Rodgers to New York.
