Tyrod Taylor has brought stability to the New York Jets’ offense since taking over quarterback duties from Justin Fields. Last week’s win against the Atlanta Falcons was a morale booster as the Jets look to end the season on a positive note, even though qualifying for the playoffs is no longer an option.

Taylor threw 19 completions from 33 pass attempts for 172 yards and 1 passing touchdown, along with one score on the ground. Head coach Aaron Glenn trusts Taylor enough to stick with him for the Jets’ week 14 divisional matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

That may be true for the present, but what about 2026? Will Taylor return, or will Glenn turn to Fields once more? There are also whispers of a new quarterback arrival through the draft.

These are the answers most Jets fans are interested in knowing about as Glenn continues to imprint his desired culture upon the Gang Green.

Keeping all that in mind, reporters asked Taylor about his future with the Jets. The fifteen-year veteran gave a vague reply.

In the moment, man – tomorrow’s not born, yesterday’s dead.

Taylor signed a two-year deal to flip from the blue side of the Big Apple for the green. He acted as Aaron Rodgers’s reliever last year before Glenn selected Fields as his starter in 2025.

The 36-year-old is 1-4 as the Jets starter. He has thrown 79 completions from 130 pass attempts for 773 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions while also adding one more on the ground.

Taylor’s best moment so far has to be his 52-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Adonai Mitchell against the Falcons. During the post-game interview, running back Breece Hall gave a play-by-play account leading up to the touchdown.

On that play, once everybody got back to the huddle, we only had about 20 seconds. That play had like two motions to it or something. Tyrod was still trying to gather himself. I’m like, ‘okay, there’s no way we’re going to be able to snap the ball.’ I’m yelling, ‘forget it, just get lined up, get lined up.’ He says ‘set-hut, set-hut,’ and sees the ball go up in the air, and I’m like, ‘alright, we scored.’

Will the Jets draft a quarterback in 2026?

The rumors are indeed true, and longtime Jets writer for ESPN, Rich Cimini, is quite certain that general manager Darren Mougey is looking at a few players in next year’s draft. Cimini mentioned names including Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, Alabama standout Ty Simpson, and Oregon signal caller Dante Moore.

Cimini wrote that Mougey attended Indiana’s game against Penn State, which the Hoosiers won due to a game-winning drive from Mendoza.

“Mougey has scouted Mendoza and Moore in person this fall. He witnessed Mendoza’s dramatic, game-winning drive against Penn State. The Jets hold the fifth pick in the draft, but they have the draft capital to trade up if they’re smitten with one of the top prospects.”

Mendoza is currently preparing to lead the Hoosiers against the number one-ranked Ohio State in the Big 10 championship game. Beyond that, his goal would be to claim the school’s first-ever CFP title.

Simpson is another great prospect if he declares for next year’s draft. Alabama finished at the top of the SEC despite winning one game less than the Georgia Bulldogs, but it boasts a better point and head-to-head record. Simpson is the architect of Bama’s great year, completing 65% of his passes for 3056 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 4 picks.

Moore is the youngest of the bunch. At just 20 years old, he’s already good enough to be Patrick Mahomes‘ favorite college quarterback to watch. Moore left UCLA to play for Oregon in 2024. This year, he has completed 72.5% of his passes for 2733 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 6 picks.
