Jey Uso finally overcame the odds to become the No. 1 contender’s for the Intercontinental Championship. He earned the title shot by defeating Braun Strowman, Ilja Dragunov, and Pete Dunne in a Fatal 4-Way match on the season premiere episode of Raw. Uso will now fight the current champion, Bron Breakker, for the Intercontinental title.
The former Bloodline member qualified for the No. 1 contender’s match by defeating Karrion Kross and Kofi Kingston on the August 26 episode of Raw. Many fans predicted he would win after he engaged in several brutal back-and-forths with Bron Breakker. With this win, Jey Uso moved one step closer to winning the first singles title of his career.
In the main event of Raw, Jey, Ilja Dragunov, Braun Strowman, and Pete Dunne fought to earn a title shot. The match was chaotic from start to finish, as the stars joined forces to slow the biggest one of them down. Dunne and Dragunov’s chemistry was top-notch as they exchanged blows and displayed their technical prowess. Meanwhile, the 39-year-old star was a constant throughout the match and showed everyone why he was so over with fans.
In the final moments of the match, The Mad Dragon gained complete control over the formerly known Butch. He hit a devastating powerbomb and H-bomb combination. However, he was superkicked by Jey, who eventually secured the win by hitting the Uso Splash on the already-downed Bruiserweight.
