Jey Uso is set to face Damian Priest at WWE Backlash for the World Heavyweight Championship. Despite being highly over as a singles star, the Samoan is yet to win a singles championship in the WWE. The WWE has clearly invested a lot in the 38-year-old, as he recently beat one of WWE’s biggest names, Finn Balor.
Jey Uso took on Judgement Day member Finn Balor in a dark match after the latest episode of Friday Night SmackDown went off the air. After an intense battle, the babyface picked up the victory by pinning the Demon in a clean manner.
Towards the end of the match, the former bloodline member went for his classic Uso Splash. However, the former NXT champion rolled out of the way just in time. Taking advantage of the situation, he hit his opponent with a classic missile drop to send him into the corner. Further, he quickly climbed the turnbuckle to go for the Coup De Grace.
This time, it was the 38-year-old who rolled away just in time, dodging the move. Uce quickly got up on his feet and hit his opponent with a spear. He pinned Finn Balor in the center of the ring, beating the first Universal Champion. The crowd was ecstatic to see one of their favorite babyfaces pick up the win.
Vince Russo claims Jey Uso challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship is a horrible decision
On an episode of Writing With Russo, Vince Russo blasted the WWE for choosing Jey Uso to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at Backlash. He had similar thoughts about the Phenomenal AJ Styles going for the WWE Undisputed Championship against Cody Rhodes.
The former WWE writer said that both these superstars are terrible choices to be going for the World Championship at Backlash. The WWE should have been building up a babyface for months to face Damian Priest. This way, there would at least be some ambiguity about the winner of these matches.
Vince Russo believed that there was no question whatsoever that both Cody Rhodes and Damian Priest were going over at Backlash. The 63-year-old faced some backlash for these comments, with fans claiming that he should be the last person advising others how to write a wrestling show. Regardless, it would be interesting to see if Russo’s predictions turn out to be correct.
