It seems Jey Uso will have to wait a little longer to win his first singles title in WWE. He wrestled the current World Heavyweight Champion, Damian Priest, in a dark match after SmackDown went off the air. Unfortunately for him, The Archer of Infamy proved to be a little too much, as he retained the title with a win.
After the latest episode of SmackDown went off-air, fans witnessed the Backlash rematch between two stars who have been enemies for a long time. Damian Priest and Jey Uso both went to great lengths in this bout, but everything changed in the final moments of the match. When The Yeet Master’s attempt to hit Priest with a splash failed, Priest seized the opportunity and secured the victory with South of Heaven.
Interestingly, the 41-year-old star won the match without any interference from The Judgment Day at all. This marked his 15th successful title defense, including house shows. He won the title by cashing in his MITB briefcase on Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania XL. Since then, The Judgment Day member has held onto his title and has been striving to become a fighting champion, much like Seth Rollins previously did.
At Money in the Bank, Priest retained his title against Rollins and McIntyre thanks to timely interference from CM Punk. So far, he has defeated all of his opponents and is now brimming with confidence as a champion. However, it will all be put to the test when he wrestles perhaps his toughest challenge yet in the form of Gunther at SummerSlam.
Jey Uso borrowed Brock Lesnar’s catchphrase for his new merchandise
Over the last few months, Jey Uso has become one of the most popular babyfaces in the entire company. He has always remained one of the most prominent names among top merchandise sellers at WWE. Recently, the Stamford-based promotion introduced new merchandise for the former Bloodline member.
The new merchandise from Jey featured the phrase “Eat Sleep YEET Repeat” in light blue letters in the center. It strongly resembled one of Brock Lesnar‘s iconic catchphrases, “Eat Sleep Conquer Repeat,” which he used during his heated rivalry with The Undertaker. The Beast Incarnate’s merchandise resonated well with fans and was a bestseller.
Lesnar has been out of action since last year’s SummerSlam event, where he put Cody Rhodes over. He was supposed to return at the Royal Rumble earlier this year, but he was involved in a lawsuit filed against Vince McMahon by former employee Janel Grant for s*xual assault. Only time will tell whether fans can see him back in the squared circle.
