Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran is having a breakthrough season this year, having scored seven goals in just 11 appearances, most of them coming off the bench. The 20-year-old young forward scored a goal in a massive 4-0 World Cup qualifier win for Colombia.

Duran came off the bench again to score a brilliant goal helped by an assist from Luis Sinisterra for the Colombian national side, in their 4-0 win over Chile. He came on as a substitute for Jhon Cordoba, in the 46th minute of the match, taking his season goal-scoring tally to seven goals. He continued with his brilliant goal-scoring streak, helping Colombia to make it to the second position on the South American World Cup qualifying group with 19 points from 10 matches.

His goal against Chile earned him an intriguing nickname as ‘The Colombian Balotelli’. Mario Balotelli, who once played in the Premier League, had enjoyed a similar career graph in his early playing days. Apart from his recent goal, Duran, meanwhile, has scored a goal against Bayern Munich in a historic 1-0 UCL win, while also scoring against Wolverhampton, Everton, Leicester City and West Ham and Wycombe, mostly coming on as a half-time substitute.

Meanwhile, the Colombian sensation, who was once targeted by Chelsea and Arsenal, spoke after the match against Chile about his ambitions. He highlighted luck as a factor, while also adding that the thought of scoring goals before stepping onto the pitch helped him.

This new deal, lasting until 2030, will keep him at the club despite interest from several clubs including Chelsea and West Ham.
