It was an astonishing comeback for Aston Villa as they overturned a 2-0 deficit to clinch the bragging rights of the game against Everton. A special performance from Ollie Watkins, who hammered home a brace to restore parity, followed by a wonder strike from Jhon Duran, sealed the deal for the Lions at Villa Park.

It was the 76th minute, and the scoreline was locked at a 2-2 impasse after much drama until then. Duran, who was introduced six minutes prior, found himself as the nexus of an awe-inspiring strike that even made Villa’s custodian, the World Cup-winning Emi Martinez, stunned.

Receiving a pass from Ross Barkley a couple of yards outside the penalty box, Duran decided to let one fly and hammered a picture-perfect piledriver beyond the grasp of a flying Jordan Pickford. Such was the brilliance of the strike that the fans, the players, and Unai Emery himself were left bewildered. Duran’s winning strike was also more than enough to derail a fabulous start from the Toffees in the game.

Everton took an early lead through Dwight McNeil, who scored in the 16th minute, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin doubled the tally for the visitors in the 27th minute. It was a hard outing for Villa initially, but things would soon turn in their favour. Ollie Watkins reduced the deficit in the 36th minute while he restored parity just two minutes from an hour’s play. Duran’s magical super hit in the 76th minute completed the watershed for Villa.

Here is what X had to say about Jhon Duran’s wonder strike

X loved the incredible strike from Jhon Duran and made no attempt to hide their praise of the goal. They were also vocal about how Duran can be a key aspect in defining this season for Aston Villa. For Everton, however, this was the second time in a row that they blew apart a two-goal lead. In their last week’s fixture against Bournemouth, they lost 3-2 despite leading by two goals until the 85th minute.

A few fans also highlighted that this strike from Duran should be nominated for the goal of the month award if there aren’t any of these screamers to follow through. Ollie Watkins, who scored a brace earlier in the game for Villa, also heaped praise on the youngster for a marvelous strike like that.
