Even though Jim Harbaugh couldn’t bring his star quarterback along with him in the Los Angeles Chargers, when the opportunity presented itself to draft another Michigan star, he didn’t miss it. Using the Chargers’ No. 69 pick, Harbaugh drafted Junior Colson into the 2024 roster.
Mere hours after the draft selection of Colson, the Chargers shared a video on social media, where the head coach– coming off a national championship victory with his college football team, celebrating the addition of the linebacker.
Harbaugh broke out into the Unversity of Michigan’s official fight song, ‘The Victors’ and then concluded with “Go Blue!” As he finished the victory song, the entire room matched his energy with a loud applause.
This offseason, the Chargers made one of the biggest moves by signing Harbaugh as he made his way back into the NFL. He signed a five-year contract with an annual salary of $16 million and became one of the highest-paid head coaches in the league.
With him as the head coach, the Chargers have stepped in their rejuvenating era which started in the offseason where the franchise made some very smart moves. In the draft, they acquired top offensive tackle Joe Alt in the first round, followed by wide receiver Ladd McConkey in the second, and then Colson on Friday.
Junior Colson’s call to the Chargers glory
In the third round of the NFL Draft, when many of the Michigan players got picked. Colson received a special call from his former head coach, Harbaugh, informing him about his selection in the 69th pick.
The Chargers’ new head coach called Colson, asking him whether he was ready to be a Charger.
Yes Sir, I am. You already know it. You already know it man, c’mon now. Let’s make it happen.Junior Colson replied
Then Harbaugh let out his famous “Who’s got it better than us?” and Colson replied, “Nobody.” Colson was part of the elite defensive line of Michigan last season, where he set a career-high of 44 solo tackles.
