Coming into the 2025 season, Jimmie Johnson have some big goals and expectation for Legacy Motor Club, after becoming the majority owner of the team recently. The first step towards attaining these goals is starting the Daytona Speedweeks strong and they almost did it, after Erik Jones crossed the finish line first at the Daytona Duel 2.

Erik Jones event went to the frontstretch to celebrate the win, no realizing there was crash behind him just before the race finished the caution flag was waved. This resulted in NASCAR rescinding the No:43 Toyota’s win and giving it to Austin Cindric, who was ahead when the race was cautioned. Jones was dejected over the result and shared his feelings on his post-race interview.

Yeah, I mean that’s the rules and that’s their [NASCAR’s] call. So, it’s part of it. But yeah, I’ve never been in that spot, so it’s a bummer. Would have loved to start out with a win.

Jimmie Johnson, the co-owner of LMC was beside him when Jones shared his feelings, told his driver that he is the winner to him and then added that the whole drama was just BS. The comments from Johnson shows how dejected they are to lose a perfect momentum building opportunity.

Jimmie Johnson shared his feelings about getting qualified for Daytona 500

There are positives from the weekend for Johnson to, as he was able to end his two years of poor performance in the Daytona 500 qualifying. He and Martin Truex Jr. was the two open car drivers to directly qualify into to the main event. Talking about it, Johnson asserted that he now feels a weight is off his shoulder.

It’s a big weight lifted off to say the least. The experience I had last year, it’s been ringing through my brain at night. I’ve jumped out of bed a few times with some nightmares as this day got closer.

The comment from Johnson shows he is delighted with how he performed in the qualifying and seems ready to tackle the challenges on Sunday’s main event. It would be interesting to see how the veteran and his team perform in The Great American race.
