The 2024 NASCAR Cup season was full of some controversial moments that split the fans and one such incident was the controversy around Kyle Larson missing the Coke 600, owing to the delay in Indy 500 during the duty weekend. Though NASCAR disliked the HMS driver missing the race for another series, they decided to give him the waiver.

But going into the 2025 season, NASCAR decided took a strong stand and made changes to the rule book, which some dub as the Kyle Larson rule, that would ensure the incident like in 2024 won’t happen again. Some fans are not happy about the change, but Hall of Famer Jimmie Johnson got NASCAR backs, as he asserted, they were some exemptions made last season that probably not right.

I think everyone at the end of the day was so happy that Kyle and Hendrick and Arrow McLaren did what they did to give Kyle every opportunity at Indy, but it did compromise some elements on the NASCAR side and there were some exceptions made due to the totality of the moment that’s probably not right.

Further talking about the point, Johnon pointed out that NASCAR has made the changes to better define the rules. He believes this change is aimed to make sure Larson will commit NASCAR if the Indy 500 gets delayed yet again.

I think they’re just better defining the rules. There is enough time there. But if there is rain like they had last year at Indy, a driver trying the double is going to have to then jump on the helicopter, then to the plane, then to the next helicopter to commit to NASCAR.

Jimmie Johnson is in extra pressure with latest Daytona 500 promotion

The No:84 Chevy team is set to attempt qualifying in the 2025 Daytona 500 with their now majority owner/driver Jimmie Johnson. They have been doing some massive promotion, with his sponsor Carvana involving NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. This puts a lot of pressure on Johnson according to senior NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass.

Pressure would be on Jimmie Johnson to make the Daytona 500 no matter what but with this amount of promotion, likely will be even more.

There will be a lot of pressures on Jimmie Johnson, as there are only 40 slots in the starting line-up and reportedly 46 cars are entering the race. It would be interesting to see if the seven times champion can make it into the main race.
