Jimmy Butler is well-known for how he acts when things don’t go his way. He’s also cultivated a reputation as somebody who can antagonize fans of his own team. Sometimes, he does things that are able to be fit into both of these aforementioned criteria!
The latest happening around Jimmy Butler that has put the NBA world on its knees with laughter is his interaction with a Big Face Coffee employee. Butler founded Big Face Coffee off a whim from his NBA Bubble experience of 2020. In the video below, he can be seen addressing his employee and making the following poignant point:
“See, I gave you a compliment. That’s what bosses do, they build you up they don’t break you down.”
The dialogue, when juxtaposed with his trade saga with Miami’s front office, makes for a humorous picture. Pat Riley has repeatedly stated his irritation at Butler mailing his effort level in over the past year. This is especially true after Butler’s essentially halved all his counting stats since his trade request. But there really isn’t much a team can do when bridges are burned at this level.
There really seems to be no step Butler wouldn’t take in order to force his way out. And his brazenness is something that NBA Twitter seems to be having a field day with.

Predictably, Twitterati as well as NBA Reddit have been on a roll with their reactions to this latest episode of Butler vs Miami. One of the fans instantly recognized the move for what it was – a dig at Pat Riley.
Another fan pointed out how Pat Riley doesn’t exactly have a great track record of keeping Miami’s stars happy at South Beach, sensing the pattern of discontent from LeBron, then D-Wade, and now Jimmy Butler.
However, not everyone is directly sympathetic with the player in this standoff. Jimmy Butler’s past trade requests are also being aired out as his dirty laundry. Fans are skeptical of Butler’s own hand in bringing the situation to this untenable state:
Above all, there seems to be a sense that NBA superstars have become more brazen and shameless when forcing a trade: after their hands have been burnt by front offices. People have been finding analogs between this current situation and James Harden telling Chinese media that he’d never be part of the same organization in 2023.
One can only imagine the kind of rut that has set into the Miami Heat locker room. They’re, in essence, being led by a player who’s sabotaging them every time he steps onto the court. However, this is the same player who powered them to 2 unlikely NBA Finals runs. The dichotomy of this situation has left Jimmy Butler stans divided.
