The NBA landscape is being disrupted by the Golden State Warriors’ audacious acquisition of Jimmy Butler in a multi-team mega transaction. Butler’s entrance increases the Warriors’ chances of winning the championship. However, the trade also sends important players to other teams in the league. This affects the Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons, Utah Jazz, and Toronto Raptors.

The Golden State Warriors acquired the six-time All-Star in return for Kyle Anderson, Andrew Wiggins, and a top-10 protected 2025 first-round selection. Butler has also decided to sign a new two-year, $121 million contract through the 2026–2027 season, declining his $52 million player option for the upcoming campaign.

In addition, Dennis Schroder will also be traded to the Utah Jazz. P.J. Tucker is returning to Miami after playing for the Heat in 2021–2022. Josh Richardson will go from Miami to Detroit, while guard Lindy Waters III will also leave the Warriors for the Detroit Pistons. Also, the deal happened while the Pistons entertained the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Heat were playing the 76ers in Philadelphia.

Just before the Warriors’ matchup with the Jazz in Salt Lake City, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told his team about the deal. Curry and Kerr both stated that they did not want to see the Warriors sell up the team’s future through desperate moves. Now, with this move sealed, all eyes will be on the Warriors going forward in the 2024-25 NBA season.

Steve Kerr praises Andrew Wiggins as star joins Heat in return for Jimmy Butler

In advance of the nerve-racking NBA trade deadline on February 6, Warriors coach Steve Kerr praised two-way wing Andrew Wiggins on Tuesday for his skill set and humanity. However, on Wednesday, the Warriors finalized a trade for Jimmy Butler, which sent Wiggins to the Miami Heat. Nevertheless, Kerr opened up on his star after the Warriors lost to the Utah Jazz.

“Just had a baby boy last week. Girls in school. Wiggs is one of my favorite players I’ve ever coached. Just a wonderful soul. We don’t hang that banner in ‘22 without him…I’m gonna miss him.”

Steve Kerr said

Kerr’s words make sense, as Wiggins has been a crucial player ever since he made his Warriors debut. He played an important role in the Warriors’ 2022 NBA title win. Now, the star starts a new chapter in Miami with his new teammates. Regardless, Kerr will always be a ‘big fan’ of Wiggins and his contributions to the Warriors throughout his career.
