Jimmy Butler teases Lakers fans by donning purple and gold #22 jersey
Trade talks surrounding Jimmy Butler have been circling ever since the season ended.
Jimmy Butler teases Los Angeles Lakers fans by donning Cameron Brink's purple and gold #22 jersey
Jimmy Butler is considered a gold-standard player. Butler’s playoff heroics have solidified him as one of the most clutch players in the league. With recent rumors surrounding his future, fans of the sport do not know what his future holds. What the star did recently is something NBA fans didn’t expect.
The Miami Heat superstar decided to pull up to a Los Angeles Sparx game and tease the Lakers when he met Cameron Brink. Before he went to sit courtside, the superstar decided to don Cameron Brink‘s Los Angeles Sparx jersey. As he watched the game, reporter Nikki Kay approached him and asked about the off-season.
A lot of stuff you probably shouldn't be doing. Trying to stay out the way. Being in LA as much as possible. I realize the Sparx are great. For some reason 22 looks good in purple and gold.Jimmy Butler via Nikki Kay during Sparks vs. Wings WNBA game
That was his way of teasing the Los Angeles Lakers fans, suggesting that his number 22 would look good in the LA colors. He used the perfect situation of wearing Brink’s No. 22 jersey to make his point.
However, this might be just his way of starting a conversation that probably leads to nothing. The last thing the Miami Heat would do is to trade their superstar to the Lakers. However, they do have a history of trading with each other in the past.
Meanwhile, Butler probably gave the Lakers hierarchy something to think about. After all, there are growing conversations about his time being up with the Miami Heat. Jimmy Butler will turn 35 this year and has recently struggled with injuries. On the other hand, the Lakers need a superstar.
Jimmy Butler could solve the Lakers 3rd star problem
Whoever the Los Angeles Lakers end up hiring as a head coach will concur that the team needs a third star. A player who can rise above the rest of the teammates and continue to make plays on both the offensive and the defensive sides remains important. Moreover, this terrific form should continue in the playoffs. The problem is that most soon-to-be free agents this year may not be sufficient in all aspects.
That is where Jimmy Butler comes in. No superstar brings all three of those aspects better than the Miami Heat superstar. He can defend the best of the best, and he can create and score at will. Most importantly, he is one of the best clutch playoff performers of the last decade.
These traits will help LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the postseason. But for this to happen, the Lakers will have to send a lot of assets to the Heat. A question mark is how much they will be willing to do that for an aging, injury-prone superstar. It remains to be seen if Butler stays with the Miami Heat in the upcoming season.
