The UFC light heavyweight division remains one of the most dynamic classes in mixed martial arts. Alex Pereira‘s recent championship win undoubtedly ensured activity returned to the top level of the division. However, Pereira has been vocal about a move to the heavyweight division. Interestingly, Jiri Prochazka’s latest comments about fighting in March may hint that ‘Poatan’ could pursue a move sooner than expected.

Pereira regained the UFC light heavyweight belt by knocking out Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320. The victory restored him to champion status and marked another major milestone in his rapid UFC run. Immediately after the win, Pereira spoke publicly about his wish to move up in weight. He expressed hopes of becoming a three-division champion, a feat never accomplished in UFC history.

Prochazka cemented his position as a leading contender by knocking out Khalil Rountree Jr at UFC 320. The finish left Prochazka tied as the top light heavyweight contender alongside Ankalaev. Since that performance, the Czech native has remained vocal about wanting another shot at UFC gold. He recently stated he wants to compete by the end of March 2026 before becoming a father in April.

Hello everyone, just quickly, all these informations on the internet about me and Ulberg is not true because the fight is not confirmed yet, its still in negotiations. For me I can say I want to fight by the end of March because in April is time for the baby. I want to fight for the title and believe only the official messages from the UFC.

ANZAC standout Carlos Ulberg has remained closely linked to title shot discussions following his knockout victory over Dominick Reyes at UFC Perth in September 2025. The win pushed Ulberg firmly into the upper tier of the light heavyweight rankings. He later volunteered to serve as the backup fighter for UFC 320 on short notice and stayed ready to step in if Pereira or Ankalaev were unable to compete.

Prochazka’s history with the Brazilian champion continues to shape the current picture at 205 pounds. Their first meeting occurred at UFC 295, where Pereira knocked out Prochazka in the second round to capture the vacant belt. A short-notice rematch at UFC 303 ended in another brutal defeat for Prochazka by head-kick knockout. Those two losses have made it difficult for the ‘BJP’ to justify a trilogy with Pereira.

UFC CEO Dana White has resisted Poatan’s immediate desire to move to the heavyweight division. White has instead insisted that Pereira focus on defending the light heavyweight belt for now. If Pereira follows through with a spring move, Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg could be matched up.

Jiri Prochazka improves his speed ahead of a potential title shot

Jiri Prochazka is undoubtedly one of the most conditioned and creative fighters in the UFC light heavyweight division. For the size of a 205-pound athlete, he moves exceptionally freely and quickly inside the Octagon. His agility and footwork allow him to execute dynamic striking combinations that few opponents can anticipate.

Prochazka has remained vocal about earning a title shot in the near future. His 2025 performances against Khalil Rountree Jr and Jamahal Hill confirmed his status as a top contender. Recently, he was seen putting on swift padwork at the BJP Institut gym in Czechia, a center specializing in MMA and Muay Thai. The footage highlighted his speed and precision ahead of a potential shot at an Alex Pereira trilogy.

Prochazka is also known for his unique and intense training methods. He has trained at high altitudes to improve conditioning and stamina for fights. Additionally, he incorporates elements of Bushido Samurai training into his regimen, blending martial discipline with unconventional workouts. These approaches have contributed to his endurance, creativity, and ability to execute unpredictable techniques.

Despite his focus on the light heavyweight division, Jiri Prochazka has stated that he will move to middleweight if he does not receive a shot at the 205-pound title immediately. That willingness underscores his desire to remain active and competitive. His dedication to training suggests he is ready for whichever path the UFC lays out next.
