In a stunning revelation, Jiri Prochazka said he may drop to 185 lbs soon. The former UFC light heavyweight king plans an audacious weight cut. Despite the desire, he wanted to reclaim his throne first. Only recently did Prochazka bounced back from a loss against Alex Pereira.
Jiri Prochazka talked about this on his YouTube channel. The Czech fighter was asked whether he would like to move up to heavyweight. He said that he was setting his sights on going down a weight class rather than moving up. Nevertheless, it would only come after another crack at the light heavyweight title held by Alex Pereira first.
Rather than [moving up to] heavyweight, I thought I'd try middleweight. I know that if I adjust my diet to where I feel great and clean, I know I could handle the middleweight division, with a lighter diet. But I would definitely concentrate on that after winning the light heavyweight title.Jiri Prochazka via YouTube
The hulking 6’4” Czech Samurai’s words immediately raised eyebrows across MMA circles. Usually, middleweight fighters move up to light heavyweight. Very few expected the granite-jawed power-puncher to pursue losing that much size and muscle mass. This would be a massive weight cut for him as he usually walks around at 230 pounds.
Prochazka recently went on to win the Performance of the Night bonus against Aleksander Rakic at UFC 300. The same night, light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira knocked out Jamahal Hill in the first round. Prochazka had advocated for an immediate title shot after his victory. Whether the UFC brass will like this or not remains to be seen.
Jiri Prochazka reveals signing a new contract with the UFC
Jiri Prochazka opened up about signing a new contract in a candid interview on his YouTube channel. The always-entertaining Czech warrior provided details about this UFC contract. Prochazka’s revelations hinted at big plans – both financially and athletically.
Prochazka revealed signing the contract before the fight against Aleksander Rakic. The new contract will aim to provide the Czech fighter with a decent amount of fights in a 40 month time span.
Yes, I signed a new contract before this fight. It was negotiated by my manager Tim Simpson. It is an eight-fight forty-month contract I think.Jiri Prochazka via YouTube
The larger implication of this contract was that Prochazka intended to make the UFC home long-term. The charismatic Czech remained confident he could recapture UFC gold once again and attain superstardom under their bright spotlight. This contract gives Prochazka a bigger timeframe to avenge that recent defeat to Alex Pereira to capture the light heavyweight title and aim for making title defenses..
