Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Jitesh Sharma has landed himself in controversy in the new IPL season. This came after aiming a wild jab at Chennai Super Kings, ahead of the much-awaited IPL encounter. RCB will play CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.

The clash between CSK and RCB has eclipsed the match between Mumbai Indians and the Yellow Army, to become the talk of the town. The rivalry between the two South Indian sides, rose to prominence at the end of the group stages of the IPL last season. Both teams needed to win the final group stage match to progress into the playoffs. RCB did the unthinkable by defeating CSK, to make it into the top four.

While the rivalry seems to have intensified, it would definitely be the taking point when the two teams face off this week. CSK, however, have an upper hand over RCB in head-to-head record. The two teams have faced each other 33 times in the competition since 2008. The Men in Yellow won 21 of those games, and RCB have only won 11 times, while one match ended in a draw.

Interestingly, Chennai defeated their opponents in the final of the 2011 edition, to lift the IPL trophy. Another significant disparity between the two teams lies in their IPL title count, with CSK boasting five titles, while RCB are yet to secure a single one. Leading up to this season’s highly anticipated clash, RCB released a video showcasing their players’ arrival in Chennai, heightening the pre-match excitement.

The viral clip has caught fans’ attention, as the players were questioned about what they feel about the people of Chennai. While other players offered positive remarks, Jitesh Sharma‘s response, delivered in what some perceived as a mocking South Indian accent, drew sharp criticism. CSK fans, in particular, reacted strongly, accusing Sharma of ‘racial abuse.’

Jitesh Sharma, while clearly highlighting his intention of claiming a win, sang a stereotypical South Indian sing-song phrase, ‘Dosa, Idli, Sambar, Chutney.’ It is a viral meme highlighting the North-South cultural divide in India. Adding to the controversy, he also made a bold prediction about his batting against RCB, stating he intended to score a quick-fire half-century off just nine or ten balls and finish the match quickly.

Nonetheless, it remains to be what lies ahead of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They are expecting a tough track to bat on in Chepauk against the five-time IPL winners. The outcome of this contest remains uncertain. Both teams come off a good start to the 2025 season, after having won their opening games.

Jitesh Sharma’s old video of him praising MS Dhoni goes viral, sparking fury among fans

Chennai Super Kings’ fans have taken a dig at RCB wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma after an old video of him praising Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni went viral on social media. He had most recently claimed Australian legend Adam Gilchrist as his idol over MS Dhoni, angering fans.

An old clip has resurfaced unexpectedly. It has placed the 31-year-old wicket-keeper batsman under intense scrutiny. In the clip, he openly declared MS Dhoni as his idol, specifically citing Dhoni’s ability to manage high-pressure situations. Sharma further revealed that he watched Dhoni’s videos to learn to control a game. He even expressed a heartfelt desire to one day share the field with the 43-year-old legend.

Jitesh Sharma will be up against MS Dhoni when RCB take on CSK in the IPL next. The 31-year-old had been snapped up by RCB at the 2025 IPL auction for a massive price of INR 11 crores, after having shone at Punjab Kings between 2022 and 2024. It remains to be seen if he can excel in the IPL this season.
