JJ Reddick breaks silence on possibly using the N-word
JJ Redick has agreed to a four-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

JJ Redick denied the N-word accusations
It would not be far-fetched to admit that JJ Redick‘s debut as the head of the Los Angeles Lakers did not start entirely on a positive note. As there was some criticism about his eligibility, many were also not fond of his first impression as the coach during the press conference. To make matters worse, Redick was accused of using a racial slur during his time at Duke University.
Halleemah Nash who is a Duke alumna, took to her social media to recall an incident with JJ Redick. Nash claimed that on campus while she was working for the basketball team, the ‘new head coach of Lakers’ called her the N-word. The post quickly went viral as fans were shocked by the accusation.
Redick and the Lakers did not react to the statement immediately which made the matters worse. But now Redick’s representatives have denied the claim. TMZ Sports reached Redick’s camp to get the reaction but was shut down by the spokesperson. “No, it never happened,” the spokesperson said.
Redick, however, has not spoken about the incident himself. Nash also did not give any updates or more details about what happened. All eyes will be set on Nash to see if she takes her claims further and if the Lakers and Redick break their silence on the issue.
JJ Redick was also accused of using a racial slur back in 2018
Before becoming the head coach of the Lakers, Redick played in the NBA for 15 seasons. During his time as a player for the Philadelphia 76ers, Redick’s reputation was again at stake. The HC was accused of using a Chinese racial slur in 2018.
The league made a video that included many players and coaches wishing China a happy new year. Redick who was also part of the video appeared to have used a racial slur to give his wishes, which did not sit well with fans. The former player also wrote an apology on his social media.
Clearly I was tongue-tied, as the word I purportedly said is not in my vocabulary. I’m disappointed that anyone would think I would use that word.JJ Redick on X
Redick’s part in the video was then removed and the HC also deleted the apology tweet. But he had to face consequences as Redick was booed during the Sixers game in Shanghai, China. Hence, it is highly likely that the 40-year-old might also receive backlash for the N-word claims.
