Paul George confronts JJ Redick for double team strategy

Paul George has had a rough start to his season so far. The Philadelphia 76ers are just 2-9 after an injury-riddled start to their season. At the heart of their woes have been the injuries suffered by stars Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and George himself.

As George continues to deal with minutes restrictions for his injuries, he revealed his confrontation with rookie head coach JJ Redick for his aggressive coaching strategy. The Sixers suffered their sixth loss of the season earlier this week against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Crypto.com Arena.

During the game, Lakers coach Redick employed a ‘double-teaming’ strategy against Paul George to pressure him on offense. George took to his podcast to talk about his disapproval of Redick’s choice to double-team the All-Star as he deals with restrictions due to his knee injury.

I saw JJ after the game. We talked and laughed a little bit. They were trapping, and they were sending doubles and playing up in the pick-and-rolls, and I’m like, ‘JJ, I’m on a minutes restriction, let me hoop, let me play. Chill with the hedges and the doubles and let me hoop. I’m not out there for long.’

George revealed that he was frustrated with JJ Redick deciding to double-team George every time he touched the ball. The Laker applied constant pressure on the two-way forward. Their game plan focused on taking away George’s scoring ability on the offensive end, as the Sixers were already down two all-stars in Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.

The Lakers ultimately won the game 116-106 behind a solid game plan from coach Redick. George finished the game with just nine points on 4-13 shooting in 24 minutes of playing time. Sixers coach Nick Nurse recently revealed that George will be ready to go without any restrictions in their next match against the Orlando Magic.

Paul George showers LeBron and Bronny James with praise after matchup

Even though the Sixers lost against the Lakers, Paul George couldn’t help but admire the incredible career of his rival, LeBron James. George, who has engaged with James in many battles over the years, expressed his admiration for the Lakers star’s longevity and his historic achievement with Bronny James.

I will always always give Bron his flowers on just his longevity, and his career. And to have his son now a part of that legacy, that no one has ever done in the game of basketball. That’s dope man, that’s powerful.

George referred to the historic achievement of the James family by becoming the first father-son duo to play together. He especially shared his admiration for LeBron’s longevity as he enters year 22 in the league.

The two have faced off for over a decade, with a young George contesting prime Miami Heat LeBron in the Easter Conference for many years. Their battles have built up respect for each other as they enter the late stages of their careers.
