JJ Redick defends '40-year-old LeBron James following disappointing loss.
It’s happening again. The Los Angeles Lakers are beginning to unravel as the going gets tough. The Lakers got off to a flying start under new HC JJ Redick to kick off the season. However, after starting the season 3-0, the Lakers have since gone 1-4 on their latest road trip. After suffering another disappointing loss at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies, Redick had only one praiseworthy component of his team – LeBron James.
LeBron James finished Wednesday night’s game against the Grizzlies with 39 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 new rivalry. As the Lakers looked rattled following the loss, JJ Redick took to the podium to address the media about his team’s performance. While Redick seemed displeased with most of his team’s effort, he took some time to praise the 39-year-old James’ performance.

JJ Redick had high praise for his elderly superstar. With the dominant Anthony Davis sidelined following an ankle injury against the Detroit Pistons, much of the offensive load fell upon LeBron James. James, for his part, led both teams in scoring with his major scoring outburst. However, the Lakers’ supporting cast fell short on the offensive end and especially the defensive end.
The Lakers surrendered 131 points to a Grizzlies team with a 115.8 offensive rating on the season. The numbers look even more absurd given the absence of stars Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart from the Grizzlies. Redick emphasized the team’s lack of offensive creation, especially defensive motor.
JJ Redick walks out of interview following Lakers loss
Warning sirens are starting to ring for the Lakers and their management, perhaps for good reason. It may be premature to start worrying about the Lakers as they sit with a 4-4 record in the first two weeks of the season. However, the Lakers locker room is starting to grow disgruntled, and JJ Redick’s post-game availability indicated trouble within the team.

JJ Redick was asked about his efforts to make his team play harder. The question seemed mundane, but a visibly frustrated Redick blurted out a three-word reply instantly – “I just did.” Redick immediately got up and stormed off the podium following his response.
Trouble seems to be brewing underneath JJ Redick’s normally calm demeanor, and that could spell trouble for this Lakers team. Redick is in his first year as an HC in the NBA, and a string of losses is bound to frustrate the first-time coach. The Lakers can now only hope and see if things get back on track for the team as they take on the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night at the Crypto.com Arena.
